Pre-Romanesque art was manifested mainly in the rebuilding of great urban edifices: cathedrals, Baptisteries or funerary basilicas (Lyon, Vienne, Aix, Poitiers, Grenoble…) and certain monasteries whose traces can still be seen (Jouarre, Auxerre). (English)
The term “pre-Romanesque” thus includes Carolingian and Merovingian art which are limited by the duration of their dynasties. (English)
