--Anvilaquarius (talk) 13:25, 20 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Or the "preferred rank" for the idealized version of Dürer... I have replace as preferred value the contemporary picture of the coins. [translated by Jahl de Vautban]

@Giorgio Pallavicini: I strongly support @Anvilaquarius: argument of preferring contemporary evidences for depicting historical figures. Dürer painting is aesthetic, but entirely out of his imagination. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 09:44, 31 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ok, sorry.

"Author"

edit

Charlemagne famously met with very little success in his attempt to learn to write at an advanced age. The referense to monumenta.ch was to a page for Theodosius Archidiaconus, who seems to be an author from the 6th century. I removed it, as well as the claim that he could write latin, which was also attruíbuted to monumenta.ch, but with no useful link.

Start date as King of the Lombards

edit

Hello, I've never edited wikidata before but wanted to raise an issue. The 10 July 774 date as the start of his reign over the Lombards. This, as far as I can tell, was first introduced on EnWP by an IP editor in 2011. It has no basis in sourcing, but has popped up a couple places on the web pulling from WP and has obviously ended up on this item. The most specific we can be on the date he assumed the title is "c. June 774" - he was using it by 5 June in a charter he issued. Source: Nelson, Janet L. (2019). King and Emperor: A New Life of Charlemagne. London: Penguin. pp.143-144. Hi @Seltaeb Eht:, can you check both Q3044#P97 and Q3044#P39 and tell me if that's correct? Also, would it be necessary to add a statement regarding monarch of Italy (Q271148)? --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 08:54, 1 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Jahl de Vautban - apologies, I didn't see the cross-wiki ping, so sorry for the late reply. 5 June is still a little too precise - we know that he became king by 5 June. None of Charlemagne's biographers are comfortable being more specific than June 774. Is there a way to have the value be approximate, or does it need to be the full date?
As an aside and while we're here, the Q842606 title should probably be replaced with Q111841382, and we can be very confident in specific dates here: 25 December 800 - 28 January 814. Currently only years are listed.
Sorry if I'm messing up on any conventions here at WD, but hopefully this helps improve the reliability of the item. Best, Seltaeb Eht (talk) 22:31, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
