- Right; it’s basically a matter of degree: There are things where “the standard” and “the subject of the standard” are obviously different, I’d say e.g. ISO 1 (Q2457552) (vs. something like standard temperature and pressure (Q102145)), ISO 6357 (Q55758899) (vs. spine (Q772071)), or ISO/IEC 7816 (Q738076) (vs. something like smart card (Q41349)). On the other hand, there are other examples where “the ISO standard” and “the subject of the ISO standard” seem to be the same thing, especially for standardized codes/identifiers: International Standard Book Number (Q33057) or ISO 4217 (Q37431) are examples of that, I’d say.
- So, in this specific example, I agree with you it seems not to make much sense to distinguish those two. In which case, feel free to merge those two items! It’s just that as long as they are separate, ISO standard (P503) should be on “the ISO standard” item, which should be linked from “the subject of the ISO standard” item by described by source (P1343).
