Explanation edit

Hey! I'm sorry about this. I just copied over another request and modified it, but did not fix that specific thing. Thanks for noticing! --Cuatro Remos (talk) 19:42, 26 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency edit

In case you can fix the problem, I would like to let you know that your edits to items such as Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency (Q3764405) have caused errors to appear at enwiki, for example en:Kadapa (Lok Sabha constituency) is showing "Lua error in Module:Lok_sabha_constituency at line 429: attempt to index global 'P585Qual' (a nil value)". The module is probably deficient as was discussed at en:Wikipedia talk:Lua#Module:Lok sabha constituency. The articles listed there used to have errors due to edits made at Wikidata. Another article which currently has a problem is en:Kurnool (Lok Sabha constituency). If you are confident your edits at Wikidata are good, and if no one fixes the module, I will remove the broken infobox from the affected articles. This is just for your information. Johnuniq (talk) 05:40, 1 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Johnuniq: The semantic problem of having "points in time" on constituency items is something about which I have previously informed @Mdmahir:, the creator of the Lua module. Just today I went ahead and removed them all, which has caused the errors you are describing. I stand by these removals, especially since it is more meaningful to have election information for specific constituencies in items dedicated to those elections as well as items for candidates in those elections (see, for example, 2014 Indian general election in Nilgiris Lok Sabha constituency (Q63988758)) and two candidates Gopalakrishnan Chinnaraj (Q16937372) and Andimuthu Raja (Q201408)). Mahir256 (talk) 05:48, 1 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
OK, I'll remove the infoboxes in due course. Johnuniq (talk) 06:58, 1 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sarvathi edit

Hi, I don't understand that fawiki block but as you are the one who blocked Sarvathi here you may want to look at Special:Contributions/31.200.19.123 who keeps singing translation requests as Sarvathi. So what was the issue there, why to block at WD too? Regards --09:53, 30 June 2019 (UTC), Utar (talk)Reply

Merging edit

I see that you have merged thousands of items with your bot, however without creating redirects. While I'm running a bot catching up on the lost, it is not designed to do this on such a massive scale. Especially because my bot is editing much slower than QuickStatements, I expcet that around 10%-30% of all items will be left without redirect. --Pasleim (talk) 18:56, 3 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Pasleim: My apologies for inadvertently giving PLbot so much trouble. I'd say of the merges I wanted to execute, less than half were even attempted by QS (since the rest returned an API error having to do with the hashes of references); of those that were attempted, many of them lack redirects (since QS doesn't create them in the presence of conflicting descriptions). I have started to see whether I can fix the former problem via PAWS; I am more than happy to address the latter problem once PLbot has finished what it's doing right now, so that a list of forgotten redirections can be clearly obtained. Hi Mahir256,

I noticed your bot adding more labels to number items. Thanks for doing that. I wonder if you'd want to add the same with code (P3295) as well. I started doing so for some numerals, but I don't think I came to the ones you have been adding. Sample at Q756138#P3295. --- Jura 06:24, 1 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

You deleted my page that I created there was nothing wrong with the page and all the information was correct I can provide identification. Can you please restore my page. I have all credits with copy’s to every movie I have worked on including Fast and Furious 9. You can check the cast credits that I am an actor on there film.

@Martinez805: There has been a lot of spam lately--people making items for themselves and adding themselves as cast members in various movies--and I deleted your item for fitting this pattern of behavior. If you can provide a reference for your presence in these movies that isn't IMDB or any type of social media, I'll consider restoring the item. Mahir256 (talk) 23:06, 11 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

You can also just type in “Humberto Martinez fast and furious 9” and my name should be in all websites. Martinez805 (talk) 23:21, 11 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

In this request you also nominated Donald Trump (Q22686) for deletion.--GZWDer (talk) 22:15, 12 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

@GZWDer: Yes, I clearly dumped the entire list from the query I wrote into the DR. There is of course no reason to delete the item and the wording I used in the DR did not in any way mean to suggest that every item in the list was to be deleted. Mahir256 (talk) 22:26, 12 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

"Mass deletion of pages added by Baptisteverkindere" edit

Hi, may I know why you deleted the items created by Baptisteverkindere? They created an item for an upcoming WP:fr article about a company (Q81413425), as well as a couple items for the key people of that company. Thanks! -- Okhjon (talk) 17:27, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Okhjon: A lot of spammers lately have been making items about themselves, and since most of them described themselves as "entrepreneurs", the items Baptisteverkindere created looked just like those of the spammers. Once the frWP article about the company exists, I will undelete the items. Once these undeletions are done I suggest that you expand the items about the people associated with the company in such a way that doesn't mimic the modus operandi of the spammers. Mahir256 (talk) 17:38, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, that makes sense. Could you maybe undelete the company item now so we can expand it for the infobox of the article? If not, I’ll ping you once Baptisteverkindere has created the WP:fr article. -- Okhjon (talk) 23:19, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello Mahir,

a few days ago you told me that every user should only run to batches at the same time. At the moment there is a problem with uploading bigger batches. How many edits as a maximum should one user upload at one day with QuickStatements and do you think it is possible to make running of batches more intelligent, for example that there is a limitation from the tool for the edits one user can do at one day if there are other users with batches who are waiting and so that there is no problem as it was with my batches. -- Hogü-456 (talk) 20:48, 23 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Discussion of the "unit of measurement" proposal edit

Hi Mahir256. You participated on this property proposal: You opposed it with some valid reason. Since then I responded to both you and Arthur and significantly extended the motivation. I fear that now the discussion is somewhat stuck, potentially because people see one "oppose" and no "support" at all (or generally because of low participation). Would you consider revisiting your statement considering the discussion following it? Thanks a lot. Toni 001 (talk) 10:45, 28 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Removal of International Standard Recording Code edit

Hello. Why you have removed International Standard Recording Code from Enquanto Houver Sol? Eurohunter (talk) 17:55, 20 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Eurohunter: There is a difference between a single (a release, which may or may not have multiple tracks such as B-sides and alternate versions) and a track (a discrete audio recording with a fixed length). The item you mention refers to a single; an ISRC, per the "R" in its name, applies to a track. @Moebeus, Jc86035: might be able to explain more. Mahir256 (talk) 18:25, 20 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Dharmakaran already blocked, noting c:Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case/Dharmakaran, the other has not edited here. Beyond a feeling of haaving acted, what does blocking do in these cases. 1997kB has already blocked plenty, and there are still new accounts. One of the created articles does meet your criteria, so I feel that it is just a matter of not rewarding paid contributors, and ensuring that we do not let in crap references, and Praxidicae is the best resource for the crap being seen at enWP. The community needs to decide what it wants to do with this crap, and the system here needs to be able to be built to better defence against the behaviour that is unacceptable.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:39, 5 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mahir256,

You are receiving this message as you are one of the participants of WikiProject India on Wikidata and/or a subscriber of the Wikidata India newsletter.

Hope you and your loved ones are safe and sound during this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation.

This is for your kind information that, from 22nd May, 2020 Friday to 24th May, 2020 Sunday, a datathon will be happening on Indian scientists on Wikidata. The lack of data about Indian scientists, their works and publications on Wikidata is the reason behind conducting the datathon. Considering the ongoing pandemic, the datathon will also focus on scientists working on SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19.

The tasklist of the datathon is flexible. Participants can choose their own preferred task on this topic

Hoping for your active participation.

Take care and stay safe,

User Research - Looking for volunteers edit

Hey Mahir256,

For a current research project we are looking for active community members in Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons who are interested in filling out a survey and participating in an interview. The aim of the research is to identify opportunities for participation and access for new volunteers in the Wikimedia projects. For this purpose we would like to learn from the experiences of the already active community members and find out success factors for participation in the projects. Participation includes filling out a preliminary survey, a self-study and an interview.

If you are interested in participating, simply fill out this survey. The participants in the interviews will be selected on the basis of the answers in order to be able to consider as many different perspectives as possible.

All selected interview partners will receive a book or photo voucher of 25 euros as a thank you.

Feel free to forward this call to other people you think might share interesting experiences about Commons. If you have any questions you can of course contact me or check the project page :) On the Project Page you can also find more information.

It looks like the formatter url is no longer working. They've switched to a name string. So we may need a new property, but the work you've done may still be very useful if you have a table of IDs connected to the names they now use in the URLs. --99of9 (talk) 02:50, 22 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@99of9: I just downloaded the mix'n'match catalog data, filtered that for those entries which had CAS numbers (the vast majority of them, as it were), queried for as many CAS numbers as I could get that mapped to Wikidata items (there's a possibility that I missed a lot), and matched as many as I could with the magic of Excel, Notepad++, and regular expressions (although I suspect not enough, given that the batch I'm running will cover less than half of the catalog). And you're right about the URLs, although the IDs themselves are somehow still shown in the titles of pages for those chemicals on that site. Mahir256 (talk) 02:51, 22 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Good to know. I'm glad the MnM set was useful. I'll resynch it to catch up on all your edits. Great work. --99of9 (talk) 02:56, 22 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@99of9: Hey, you're doing so much for Australia on Wikidata, while I can't even keep up with the stuff I'm doing for the countries of the Indian subcontinent (or even the country in which I was born and reside). The praise with respect to inspiring this particular endeavor should go to you! Mahir256 (talk) 02:59, 22 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Coordinates edit

Hallo, could you explain, why you replaced contradicing coordinates by some OR coordinates instead of using the official coordinates (43.1633635, -73.3200469) from the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS)? Besides that your "choice" points to the city of Salem and not the town of Salem, which are different municipalities! Thanks. --Matthiasb (talk) 10:32, 25 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Mass deletion of contributions from my profile edit

Hi Mahir,

I respect your decision on mass deletion of my contributions (A business instance and 3 human instances), but I wanted to inquire about its alleged lack of notability and promotional claim. The company (Buy Me a Coffee) has been written up in Forbes, Tech Crunch, and Variety magazines, both highly respected authorities in the tech and business industry. Additionally, it has recently received huge investments from Silicon Valley , is one of the top platform for creators after Patreon. The company currently has over 150,000 users and has an Alexa rank of #10,000 with a million monthly views according to SimilarWeb. With regards to the other profiles created(Q98822339,Q98822442, Q98822257) those were made with relevant sources to give addition to the primary business page (Q98821936).

Batch edits edit

Why are you doing edits like this? If label exists already then just don't touch it please especiaaly if the only difference is to make it Initcap which is against the rules. --Renessaince (talk) 14:33, 10 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @Renessaince: My sincerest apologies for that; my intent was not necessarily to flout the capitalization rule, but instead to move the labels using the obsolete 'be-x-old' language code to use the proper 'be-tarask' language code. You're welcome to undo the change so long as you don't restore the label in the obsolete language code. I don't intend to make such batch edits again unless someone else continues to add labels using that obsolete language code (at which point I will see to it that existing labels in the proper language code don't get modified). Mahir256 (talk) 14:38, 10 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
    • Why you remove statement instead of just rename language code? It's looks pretty like vandalism. And why you did it with 10 other languages on Q52? MBH (talk) 10:36, 11 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
      • @MBH: Changing the language code is not so easy when both "be-x-old" and "be-tarask" are present (can't have two labels with the exact same language code), and I was operating on the assumption (which I do not intend to operate with should I have to do this again) that, since the two codes refer to the same language variety, moving labels from one to the other would not cause major changes. (As for why I did this with 10 languages, see the intent I gave above to Renessaince and note that 'roa-rup', 'bh', 'bat-smg', 'fiu-vro', 'zh-yue', 'zh-classical', and 'zh-min-nan' are also obsolete language codes.) Property scope "as qualifiers" edit

@Mahir256:: Hi Mahir256, Curious about why property scope "as qualifiers" was added to the properties follows (P155) & followed by (P156) as mandatory constraint? As both are mostly used as main value (Q54828448) and occasionally as qualifiers. Wallacegromit1 (talk) 02:37, 23 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Wallacegromit1: I will refer you (and @MovieFex:) to this discussion from four years ago and this discussion preceding that for the moment. I will get to a more thorough answer later. Mahir256 (talk) 03:32, 23 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Mahir256: Thank You for the quick reply, will wait for a resolution. Your linked discussions seem to have gotten too heated, hopefully this time will be more productive, with a definitive result. Wallacegromit1 (talk) 02:55, 23 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ad Special:Diff/1280832003, Special:Diff/1280831474: There was no other need than "report on used as reference". That's why I marked it with mandatory constraint (Q21502408). There could certainly be a parallel constraint to report just the main value but it couldn't be mandatory one. --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 07:50, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Hjart: Please see the discussions that I linked to in my reply to Wallacegromit1 regarding my placement of P155/P156. I am aware that a more recent explanation is still due. Mahir256 (talk) 04:14, 4 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Why are you removing the norwegian labels that i have added?--Trade (talk) 08:57, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Trade: The code "no" is ambiguous as to which variety of Norwegian is being used, and moving them to "nb" removes that ambiguity. (@Jon Harald Søby: might be able to explain more.) Mahir256 (talk) 12:38, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Trade, Mahir256: Yes, Mahir256 is correct. no is a macrolanguage code that consists of nb+nn. If you're adding labels for Norwegian, it is preferrable if you add them to both nb and nn if possible, and not to no. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 13:16, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Blocked? edit

You blocked me from the main space? I only reverted in once and then began conversations on the talk pages? I never did anything disruptive on the main space, why would you do that? I've literally never done anything to vandalize any wiki project and this is really kind of devastating. My outburst was followed by their exceptionally rude behavior, the likes of which I never saw on wikipedia. They erased (some, at least) valid content and did so while harassing me after the first revision. You at least explained that we shouldn't conflate the works with editions, they never mentioned that, just shoved links to projects in my face. In wikipedia, projects don't rule the site. The site is ruled by editors. I have no idea why I was blocked, please reconsider. Footlessmouse (talk) 23:17, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Also, for the record, I was in the middle of reading it when I checked my watchlist and noticed i was banned. I am not a bad editor Footlessmouse (talk) 23:29, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Footlessmouse: I put the block in place exclusively due to your outburst (note "calm down" at the start of the reasoning), which frankly was uncalled for. Whatever condescension Succu showed you in their reverts is certainly something to express concern about, but that expression pales compared to your disproportionate response to it (and by the way, Succu knows very well the consequences of truly unbecoming behavior). As I have found Kittel's textbook interesting as well, I'm happy to remove this block if you actually acknowledge the advice we are giving you by intending to make proper edition items rather than adding all the information to one item as you have tried to do. I see from your enwiki userpage that you are based in the Inland Empire, and from my own userpage there you can see that I am based in Illinois. I don't know whether your outburst had anything to do with this week's climate, but I too am a bit restless, if that is in any way a contributing factor. Also, for the record, this is not a ban. Mahir256 (talk) 23:31, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
I was responding to the blanked page, being called stupid, the lack of explanation, and the previous reversion all at once. It was basically acute harassment and I was furious. Now I am honestly just really sad. I was reading WikiPorject books and, if I ever pick up Wiki again, I will make sure to create individual items for editions and translations. You have to understand, I didn't think that was appropriate because there are so many, but I also see it says mainly ones used in sources, so that requires some extra work. I had a perfect Wiki record and have only been editing since the Coronavirus, but have made over 5000 edits to WikiPedia and I created the article for A History of the Theories of Aether and Electricity and saw it promoted to GA status. Honestly, I think I'm going to have to move on for now, I have more important things to do but have been addicted to the platform. Just in case I come back, I would appreciate being unblocked, so that at least the time would be shorter. Footlessmouse (talk) 23:48, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Footlessmouse: I see. Well, the block I put in place expires on Thursday afternoon, so if you're interested in stopping by before then do let me know and I'll lift it as soon as I can. Please don't feel bad about what you have done; I too have gotten blocked for what looked to others like vandalism. I'm glad that you are trying to improve items relating to physics texts--which, compared to anything biomedical on this site, are comparatively few--and very soon this incident will all just be a distant memory. Mahir256 (talk) 23:54, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
I saw the post on the noticeboard and I don't particularly appreciate being called disruptive for adding the ISBNs when (1) I created the item and no one else edited it before... and (2) I didn't know better. I told you I was reading WikiProject books and understand that editions and printings and works all have to have separate items. (which for this book is 10 main editions with dozens of printings with unique ISBNs, OCLCs, and publication places and translations into over a dozen languages printed over 50 years) I am also the one who created the wikipedia article. Also, yes the political climate has me on edge (I just noticed that). I have no intention of editing that page again, especially since the other user is watching it and has a propensity for harassment, but I do add short descriptions when they are missing as I browse around WikiPedia, I would very much appreciate lifting the "block" so that I can still add them (both here and there, it is counterproductive to only add them locally). Also, I am sorry for saying "ban" but I don't understand how the two are any different, I have been officially prohibited from making edits, so I have been banned from editing, right? That's not a big deal, I just noticed you mentioned it twice. Thank you for your time. Again, I would appreciate you lifting the ban so I have the ability to add short descriptions to articles I browse. Footlessmouse (talk) 00:21, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Footlessmouse: Okay then, this has been done. Cheers! Mahir256 (talk) 01:43, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────yes, I do not always stick with my resolutions of walking away. I enjoy helping to make wikipedia better (I also hate leaving projects half done and I feel compelled to finish). This thing gave me the biggest headache and I'm just going to try to forget it, even though I am still fairly upset the other user was not reprimanded for setting the whole thing in motion by being so rude and then personally insulting me, while instead the whole thing revolved around my ignorance and use of caps and asterisks on their talk page (I never personally insulted them). Anyways, now I have to ask questions lest I be called stupid and disruptive some more: Can I replace the image and the foreign translated titles that were erased with no explanation? I know the image is for a specific edition, but its the one everyone uses. For the life of me, I have no idea what was wrong with the foreign translations, that is how they appear in the foreign translations of the book. Also, as a side note for the benefit of future users, if editors acting in good faith are subject to being called stupid and disruptive for editing pages they themselves create, I think there should be better notices for the need to read those projects when beginning to edit. A notice on my talk page with a kind attitude would have prevented everything, and I likely would have thanked the editor for informing me of guidelines I wasn't aware of. This was my first ever interaction with any editors on WikiData and I had a monumentally bad first impression of the editors and not a great impression of administrators here, that is not ideal for a wiki. I do appreciate being unblocked, though, thank you for not making me wait a full three days in this very anxious time before I could continue my work. Footlessmouse (talk) 06:50, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

I can't believe you never answered my questions, I still don't know if I'm allowed to add these details in without being blocked again. Plenty of time has passed and I have claimed down, but I am unable to get over the fact that you blocked me when all I did is use some capital letters on their talk page, in order to express extreme rage at their disruptive harassment and vandalism of a page I had recently created. You argue that I was being disruptive by adding ISBNs to an item that only I have ever worked on, but they erased WAY more than ISBNs and were never reprimanded. They also called me stupid and I never insulted them, but you blocked me... Any reasonable person would have reacted quite poorly to that. My reaction was a bit over the top, but I do not believe that I out of line, and certainly not as much as the other user. Then you made me reading the Books project a condition of unblocking me as if I did something wrong by not knowing of it in advance. With your unblock message saying I needed to read more before I am allowed to "opine" again, when I never expressed an opinion, just wanted to not be harassed. I am stating for the record, your conduct here was unbecoming of an administrator and I believe strongly that you should resign. Thank you. Footlessmouse (talk) 00:05, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Footlessmouse: I hope your Thanksgiving went well! Yes, I highly regret not having gotten to a lot of things on-wiki lately. Having calmed down since that eventful Monday evening myself, I wish to sincerely apologize for not fully understanding (from only marginally understanding at least to completely misunderstanding at most) your point of view in a dispute on this wiki (and thus taking more punitive action against you compared to what may have been warranted for the user with whom you had this dispute). I can promise you that my actions will not lead to an experience similar to yours for any other user on this wiki again. With regard to your question, the foreign translations of the title (as labels, and not as values for title (P1476)) and the image can be replaced. Hope that helps. Feel free to direct more questions to Wikidata:Project chat. Mahir256 (talk) 00:34, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
