Future software changes
  • MediaWiki will stop supporting XHTML 1.0 and HTML versions lower than version 5. HTML5 will now be the default language for pages created by the software. [6] [7]
  • The software will check if all uploaded files are secure and match their type. [8]
  • The Wikimedia Commons Android app will come out of the beta phase on its next release. [9]
  • Account creation by manual log-in will now be recorded in the account creation log (bug 42434). [10]
  • Links to file description pages will again be accessible directly from within videos (bug 43747). [11]
  • The software behind recent changes patrolling was re-written; the change fixes issues related to patrolling new pages, among other things. [12]
  • During a meeting, developers agreed on rules about making big changes to the software. [13]
  • There is now a category to list pages with invalid music code. [14]

Report incontro Wikimedia Italia - BNCF

Cari Wikidatari,
sabato 29 giugno 2013, si è svolto a Firenze un incontro tra Wikimedia Italia (WMI) ed alcuni funzionari della Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Firenze (BNCF) per discutere di alcuni progetti comuni. Pensavamo fosse utile per tutti pubblicare anche qui il report della giornata, dato che si parla di alcune questioni inerenti a Wikidata.

Durante l'incontro sono stati discussi diversi progetti:

  • Wikipedia - Thesauro del Nuovo Soggettario (NS)
  • altre fonti dati BNCF per Wikidata
  • classificazione Dewey dei libri su Wikidata/Wikipedia
  • lettera di intenti WMI - BNCF
  • corso su Wikipedia in BNCF
  • scansioni di libri nel Pubblico Dominio per Wikisource
  • Wiki Loves Monuments

Progetto Wikipedia - Thesauro del Nuovo Soggettario

È stato fatto il punto della situazione del progetto Wikipedia - Thesauro del Nuovo Soggettario. Su Wikipedia, dopo una discussone con la comunità sono stati inseriti tramite bot i “backlink” tra le schede dei termini del Thesauro e le pagine di Wikipedia. Ora in Wikipedia il template {{Thesaurus BNCF}} è presente in 7555 voci (si veda il conteggio), mentre i termini del Thesaurus sono in totale 47800.

Sono stati condivisi due documenti contenenti:

  • le statistiche sui collegamenti Thesaurus - Wikipedia
  • la descrizione della procedura per la creazione automatica dei link.

L'idea è, da parte della BNCF di espandere la “copertura” del Thesaurus (in termini di numero di link Thesaurus -> Wikipedia) dall’altro quello di usare Wikidata e Wikipedia come “feedback” sulla correttezza di questi link.

Classificazione Dewey su Wikidata

La proprietà “w:Classificazione decimale Dewey” era stata proposta qui, ma è stata al momento sospesa per questioni di copyright (la classificazione è proprietaria). Il personale della BNCF ci ha indicato che inserire la classificazione su un item è possibile, ma non è possibile è riprodurre la struttura gerarchica/classificatoria dello strumento. Quindi è stata riaperta la discussione.

Attendiamo comunque dal personale BNCF che ci diano notizie più aggiornate e specifiche sull’effettiva usabilità della classificazione.

Lettera di intenti WMI - BNCF

Dopo aver rivisti i risultati e le nuove prospettive del progetto precedente si è proposto di formalizzare questa attività sottoscrivendo una lettera di intenti "aperta" tra WMI e la BNCF. La lettera sarà aperta nel senso che non riguarderà solo il progetto "Thesauro", ma anche altre possibili collaborazioni. Giovanni Bergamin invierà una bozza di lettera.

Scansioni in Pubblico Dominio per Wikisource

Il Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali (MiBAC) ha siglato un accordo con Google per la digitalizzazione delle opere contenute nelle Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma e Firenze.

Pare che l’accordo non preveda alcuna restrizione sule scansioni delle opere in Pubblico Dominio, ma solo un generico diritto di database e quindi le opere potrebbero essere scaricate da Google Books e utilizzate su Wikisource. Cercheremo di investigare la percorribilità di questa strada.

Wiki Loves Monuments

La BNCF si trova a Firenze in piazza dei Cavalleggeri, all'interno di un edificio monumentale (si veda la voce della BNCF su it.wiki), cercheremo di capire chi può concedere l'autorizzazione affinché l'edificio possa essere inserito nella lista dei monumenti fotografabili per Wiki Loves Monuments 2013.

Universal Language Selector will be enabled by default again on this wiki by 21 February 2014

On January 21 2014 the MediaWiki extension Universal Language Selector (ULS) was disabled on this wiki. A new preference was added for logged-in users to turn on ULS. This was done to prevent slow loading of pages due to ULS webfonts, a behaviour that had been observed by the Wikimedia Technical Operations team on some wikis.

We are now ready to enable ULS again. The temporary preference to enable ULS will be removed. A new checkbox has been added to the Language Panel to enable/disable font delivery. This will be unchecked by default for this wiki, but can be selected at any time by the users to enable webfonts. This is an interim solution while we improve the feature of webfonts delivery.

Changes to the default site typography coming soon

This week, the typography on Wikimedia sites will be updated for all readers and editors who use the default "Vector" skin. This change will involve new serif fonts for some headings, small tweaks to body content fonts, text size, text color, and spacing between elements. The schedule is:

  • April 1st: non-Wikipedia projects will see this change live
  • April 3rd: Wikipedias will see this change live

This change is very similar to the "Typography Update" Beta Feature that has been available on Wikimedia projects since November 2013. After several rounds of testing and with feedback from the community, this Beta Feature will be disabled and successful aspects enabled in the default site appearance. Users who are logged in may still choose to use another skin, or alter their personal CSS, if they prefer a different appearance. Local common CSS styles will also apply as normal, for issues with local styles and scripts that impact all users.

Siamo già a 3000 identificatori associati in mix'n'match, è ora di pensare alla sincronizzazione e serve una proprietà: Wikidata:Property_proposal/References#Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani (DBI). Proposal to create PNG thumbnails of static GIF images

How a PNG thumb of this GIF would look like

There is a proposal at the Commons Village Pump requesting feedback about the thumbnails of static GIF images: It states that static GIF files should have their thumbnails created in PNG. The advantages of PNG over GIF would be visible especially with GIF images using an alpha channel. (compare the thumbnails on the side)
