special characters input problem

I wated to add category's main topic (P301) to Category:Volta–Congo languages (Q31817783). I started to type, but target page name (Volta–Congo (Q37228) contained and i typed - and page was not found. There should be some algoritm for converting special characters when typing (- / – / —) (... / …) etc. In this cases usually exists redirects in WP, but not all are added as aliases and then is problem to find correct item. Lua error in mw.wikibase.entity.lua

An intermittent problem occurs when a module executes entity = mw.wikibase.getEntity() or its equivalent entity = mw.wikibase.getEntityObject(). See the report at en:WT:Wikidata#Wikidata script errors for some details. My guess is that the server rendering a page needs to establish a network connection to some other server to execute php.getEntityId to implement getEntity, and sometimes a timeout occurs.

The symptom is that an article shows a big red error message saying:

Lua error in mw.wikibase.entity.lua at line 34: The entity data must be a table obtained via mw.wikibase.getEntityObject

and the page is added to Category:Pages with script errors (a hidden tracking category).

A link to an example follows, but would people please not purge the page until others have had a chance to see it: s:Kilvert, Francis (DNB00).

The search index holds examples for a period after the problem has gone away because affected pages are purged. Examples follow.

I'll leave Phabricator for others. Johnuniq (talk) 05:58, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

I have got a similar report very recently: "Seemed to be a teporary error, now it's ok. It was quite a long text, something about the line 34 in a module [...]". Matěj Suchánek (talk) 08:02, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
I added a search for cs errors above. Johnuniq (talk) 10:16, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

I mentioned this at Wikidata:Project chat#Lua error in mw.wikibase.entity.lua. Johnuniq (talk) 10:33, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

client shortcuts to add values

A is used to add new property regardless of current position on the screen (it isn't focused properly after vertical scroll)

1 - first "add" link in the current screen 2 - second 3 - third d1g (talk) 03:19, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

I would also like following on phone:

  • VolumeUp - add value
  • VolumeDown - add property

d1g (talk) 03:29, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

This is slowly accumulating votes (about 64% vs 36% in favor of the change) but still with no input from the dev team - any chance of that happening? See previous request here. ArthurPSmith (talk) 14:43, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

Hello @ArthurPSmith:, sorry for the delay. We are aware of this and will provide an answer as soon as possible. Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 15:15, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
Any progress? --Succu (talk) 17:55, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
Sorry. This is on me. I am traveling too much at the moment and have a huge backlog :( I am moving it up my todo list. I know this is important. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 18:43, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
OK, thanks Lydia. --Succu (talk) 18:46, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

We need to say "or" between values

Second big request. First I though it is too early, but I'm not alone: Wikidata:Project_chat#Logical_operators_on_statements

Users should be able to switch from "and" to "or" to "xor".

I think this should be similar to ranks (depends on entity-property combination) d1g (talk) 07:35, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

There is no need to switch, because there is no implied "and" there. At least not from the perspective of the WIkibase data model or software. I replied on the project chat too. -- Daniel Kinzler (WMDE) (talk) 16:33, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

Wikidata SPARQL endpoint

Wikidata SPARQL Endpoint seems broken. I had Rate Limit Exceeded and now errors like *Request from XXX via cp1061 cp1061, Varnish XID 46709210
Error: 503, Backend fetch failed at Wed, 19 Jul 2017 15:16:40 GMT*.

Thanks!

If you're hitting "Rate Limit Exceeded", it's not the endpoint is broken, it's you are doing way more parallel requests than you should. Please change your scripts so they are not running that many requests in parallel. It's a shared service, and we need to be considerate of each other. As for other error, please describe what you were doing (queries, how many, what you are trying to achieve, etc.) Smalyshev (WMF) (talk) 15:52, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

server side support for multiple actions with same secondary id

This is needed for bot owners and for us in general to fix any possible mistakes. (like this or other)

I.e. user should have control to say "I'm going to make series of edits", "I will make another series of edits".

I suggest to

  • rotate secondary ID based on "activity"/"inactivity" automatically
  • provide a button to "create new series"

Possibly:

  • voting against series of edits (notification to bot owner first, then possible action against this series)
  • "continue my recent series" (e.g. within day or week) d1g (talk) 03:23, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

If we have this:

  • we would need separate bot accounts less (bot will use "bot" series, wikibase only "manual" series)
  • less stress on bot owners if they make mistakes (they have hard time to collect their edits, even if they want to fix them)
  • less stress on individuals who make mistakes (e.g. admin), more focus on series of edits - we need tools to keep discussions constructive and accurate (series A was correct, but series B has high error rate)

Sorting order of P1376 and P131

capital of (P1376) and located in the administrative territorial entity (P131) are often found next to each other. That tends to result in that statements are added to the wrong Property. Can we put some distance between them? -- Innocent bystander (talk) 12:52, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

You add your suggestions to MediaWiki talk:Wikibase-SortedProperties. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 14:17, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

2 audio files cause problem

There are two audio files (P51) on item Common Starling (Q25469); that's good. However, I have nearly 10,000 species using {{#invoke:Wikidata|getValue|P51|{{{sain|FETCH_WIKIDATA}}}}} in their taxon box, which creates a problem as you can see on this WP article on cywiki. Is there a way round this? Robin Owain aka BOT-Twm Crys (talk) 12:34, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

Hello @BOT-Twm Crys: Two options here: fix your Lua code so it can accept two audio files, or mark one of them as preferred in Wikidata :) Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 10:54, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
As we have no one who writes Lua, how do we 'mark one of them as preferred in Wikidata' please? BOT-Twm Crys (talk) 05:33, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
When you edit the statement "audio" on Wikidata, you can click on the icon with two arrows next to the value, then chose "preferred rank" and save. Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 06:50, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

css visited links in WDQS results

a { color: #009 !important; } a:visited { color: #900 !important; } Please don't listen to magazines to disable :visited functionality all the time. This is needed in reports and help materials. d1g (talk) 02:35, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Phab:T170668 : "Unknown dependency: wikibase.mobile" on Wikidata element pages

Just pushing Phab:T170668 up, because it looks like something which needs attention. Bug will happen (least for me) in all item pages and js loading order seems to be only reason why it doesn't break the UI every time. --Zache (talk) 02:00, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Contradictory description conflict

I'm unable to add 'en' label "Wikimedia disambiguation page" on Nikonov (Q33315760): it states : "Could not save due to an error. Item Q3341824 already has label "Nikonov" associated with language code en, using the same description text." -- while in reality item Nikonov (Q3341824) bears "family name" as its 'en' description. -- LaddΩ chat ;) 04:38, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

Indeed, I encounter the same error. Just created a ticket. Thanks for reporting! Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 07:30, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
