Motivation edit

The British Museum website contains over 232,000 entries for people, organisations, and mythical characters. Some are only a single line, but many are quite extensive, and sometimes more detailed than other standard online references.

We have previously tried to match to this corpus using British Museum person or institution ID (P1711) linked to the BM's trial linked-data service (29,000 entries currently matched). But some time ago that service ceased returning any biographical text for entries, and for the last several months it has been off the net completely, returning a 502 "Bad Gateway" error. It would therefore seem a good idea to try to make links to the main public website instead.

There appears to be no relation between the P1711 IDs and those used by the main public website. However, it may be possible to make some assignments by scraping the text of the public website and comparing it to the text stored in Mix'n'match obtained previously from the linked-data site.
