Motivation edit

As the notice on the VIAF page says: "Until 2018, LAC records in VIAF included those for both the English and French language of cataloguing environments. In 2018, all of the LAC authority records were withdrawn in preparation for re-loading only those with 040 $b fre. The LAC file in VIAF now contains authority records for persons, corporate bodies, geographical names and titles when the language of cataloguing is French."

Basically Canadiana Authorities ID (former scheme) (P1670)   is outdated and was dropped from VIAF, when importing the new identifier a bit later. The older value is still preserved in field 016 of the MARC record, though. Another reason for this proposal is so people can add the new identifier properly without misusing the old one.
