Wikidata:WikiProject Authority control/Error reporting procedures
Wikidata users with edit access to external databases edit
Effective authority control is vital for the Wikidata ecosystem. Over the years, the community has transitioned from primarily importing information passively to actively engaging in the enhancement of external databases. This shift aims to prevent the propagation of errors and underscores the importance of maintaining data accuracy (see Wikidata:Data round-tripping).
In this dedicated page, created in 2024,[1] are listed contact procedures and Wikidata users who have edit access to external databases (with a particular, but not exclusive, focus on authority files). If the only available procedure consists in using a web form on a specific page, or an e-mail, it is not indicated in this table, since it can already be added to the property page using error-report URL or e-mail (P10923).
Feel free to add yourself to the table below!
Purpose edit
The primary purpose of this page is to:
- spare time: simplify the research of the method for reporting mistakes in external databases (the procedure indicated through error-report URL or e-mail (P10923) is usually available besides contacting specific users on Wikidata, but sometimes the second option could be more effective, especially to discuss dubious cases);
- ensure accuracy: allow Wikidata users to correct mistakes not only in Wikidata, but also in external databases in an easier way, in order to avoid that mistakes already corrected in Wikidata are readded afterwards on the basis of these external databases;
- facilitate collaboration: allow Wikidata users with edit access to external databases to collaborate effectively;
- enhance transparency: provide visibility into the individuals responsible for managing authority data.
