Welcome to WikiProject Media Representation!

The Aim of this project is to;

1. Use the public media representation tests as quantitative analysis tools to gauge the current state of diversity of stories and perspectives available in World Media.

2. Provide a central space to view and discuss public media representation tests on Wikidata.

3. Track the progress of the coverage of all the tests.

4. Support Modelling of items, properties, sources/references, tools and queries to assist in further development and visibility of these tests.

5. Understand and resolve ambiguity and shortcomings of the tests, to future-proof and improve the data quality.

Discaimer:

These tests do not judge the quality or message of any media, and passing any of these tests does not automatically guarantee that the content is not problematic or offensive in its portrayal of the subjects, and vice versa.

The wording of some of the tests have also been modified to be useful in a global context and for most forms of media (Film, TV, Theater, Books, etc...).

No one test can replace a qualitative examination of a creative work. But each test opens up critical discussion, challenges and inspires creators, and provides another tool for measuring hidden biases.

Art and entertainment are always subjective and nuanced. Lets have fun with data!

Tasks/Instructions edit

1. Select atleast one of the tests and add them to Movies, TV, Books, etc... using the specific Instructions, Criteria and Modelling for each test.

2. TV episodes and Book volumes can be tested individually. However, for TV seasons and Book series, passing any test would require atleast 55% of the individual episodes/volumes to also pass the same test. For a Complete TV Series, an external reference or, both the individual episodes and individual seasons must score an average of 55% or above. If the value lies between 50% and 55%, the test still passes, but with the qualifier nature of statement (P5102) = rarely. The same percentage applies to Anthology TV Series and Miniseries.

3. Most tests are for Fictional Works Only. Documentary and Non-Fiction have there own tests. However, if you do find Documentary/Non-Fiction with some of the fictional tests, Please Do Not Remove Them, as they can still provide some qualitative insight into the work.

4. Improve the quality of the items that pass the tests, by adding key missing statements, references and at least five external identifiers. (See Tools Below)

5. Use databases (See Sources in each test), in-depth reviews and media lists as references. If no external reference exists, use stated in with the "work/item" itself as a reference, and optionally also add time index in the reference for key scene/s that fulfill the criteria. You may also use, the script or transcript as a reference, preferably using specifications like quotation (P1683), page(s) (P304) or section, verse, paragraph, or clause (P958).

6. Design graphics for individual tests to visually convey the criteria, similar to the Bechdel Test Graphic. And propose a image/graphic for the WikiProject Media Representation Userbox.

7. Help translate this page, the criteria and the individual test items, into as many languages as possible!
