Wikidata:WikiProject PCC Wikidata Pilot/Dickinson, St. Mary’s, UConn, UH, UHCL, UTPB
Aim and Scope
editThis project seeks to establish unique identifiers for key organizations involved in ‘the Troubles’ of Northern Ireland in the late 20th century, as recorded by CAIN. We are grateful to CAIN for allowing us to use their extensive records.
This project will be limited to organizations listed on CAIN’s page, Abstracts on Organisations That Were Prominent During 'the Troubles'. We will begin with government agencies, political parties, security organizations, and paramilitary groups. As the librarians on this project are new to Wikidata, we do not yet have a fixed scope.
Background
editProject Members
The librarians working on this project are all members of a linked data study group formed in 2018 at the University of Houston (Main and Clear Lake). The group has expanded and now includes members from Dickinson College, University of Connecticut, St. Mary’s University, and University of Texas Permian Basin. In order to collaborate on a PCC Wikidata Pilot project that does not benefit one of our institutions over others, we have chosen a project that we hope will be of service to the library and scholarly community.
CAIN
CAIN is the Conflict Archive on the Internet, located in Ulster University. The archive contains information on the late 20th century conflict in Northern Ireland known as 'the Troubles' as well as politics in the area from 1968 to the present.

Workflow
editHelp Pages
editThe following help pages may be of use in creating items.
User Scripts
editUser scripts are short computer scripts written by Wikidata users that give additional functionality to the Wikidata user interface. Access your own special page via Special:Mypage/common.js, which will redirect you to your own common.js page to add scripts. Step by step slides with screenshots. Some scripts you may find helpful:
- VIAF script allows you to explore the members of a VIAF cluster (codes and labels) just passing over the value of P214
importScript( 'User:Bargioni/viaf.js' );
- CreateNewItem adds a "create new item" link in the dropdown menu when you want to add an item to a property, but the item does not exist
importScript( 'User:Efly/Gadget-CreateNewItem.js' );
- Rearrange the order of values in a statement to an order you prefer
importScript( 'User:Tohaomg/rearrange_values.js' );
- Display ORES score under the item label
importScript("User:EpochFail/ArticleQuality.js");
Gadgets
editGadgets are plug-ins to enhance Wikidata display and editing. To add gadgets, go to the Preferences page while logged in and click the "Gadgets" tab.
- currentDate: Automatically adds the date of today while using the property
- relatedItems: Adds a button to the bottom of item pages to display inverse statements.
