Aim and Scope edit

Explore the creation of metadata and identifiers for entities in a more time-efficient way than the current NACO and SACO methods.
Expose traditional catalogers to other ways of describing entities beyond the traditional MARC workflows.
Create entity identifiers and URIs for use in systems that can exploit them (e.g. our local DAMS).
Support our involvement with the PCC URIs in MARC Pilot by creating URIs to add to MARC data for potential future use.
Learn from a community of other experts and explorers to deepen our knowledge of Wikidata and its associated tools.
Test the use of identifier creation in Wikidata for campus research centers and institutes within the research data collection description workflow.

Background edit

The UC San Diego Library has a local triplestore repository of digital objects and data sets, all with associated metadata than can benefit from identifiers and URIs. While much of our data already has these data points, there are many entities that lack them and adding these entities to Wikidata will be a (hopefully) expedient way creating them. Additionally, we also use ArchivesSpace which also can make use of identifiers and URIs.
