Project Summary

Promote understanding of use of Wikibase and Wikidata in GLAM context
Develop local expertise in Wikidata editing, with particular emphasis on the potential of using Wikidata for identity management
Make available reusable linked data regarding agents from underrepresented groups, by creating and enhancing Wikidata items based on University of Minnesota Libraries collections
Coordinate with other institutions to escort library data into the semantic web
Help develop Wikidata best practices for library data

Objectives:

Create and enhance Wikidata items for agents and works appearing in the Minnesota Hip-Hop Collection (Givens Collection), including individual artists, groups, record labels, and recording studios
Investigate workflows and methodologies for building connections between related entities listed above within Wikidata
Explore building connections between items created in Wikidata and other identity management systems, including the Library of Congress Name Authority File and Discogs

Tasks:

Create Wikidata entities for agents and works appearing in the Minnesota Hip-Hop Collection
Draft best practices for creating items for various types of agents and works
Draft workflows for creating or modifying LCNAF records and making two-way connections between Wikidata and the authority file

Mine Givens finding aids in ArchivesSpace for additional agents to add to Wikidata
Draft best practices for creating items for various types of agents and works
Draft workflows for creating or modifying LCNAF records and making two-way connections between Wikidata and the authority file
