PCC Pilot

edit

University of Victoria Libraries (Q50280985) is a participant in the PCC Wikidata Pilot

Scope of Involvement

edit

University of Victoria Libraries is involved in adding data to Wikidata with a focus on its local collections and entities associated with local collections. This has specifically involved:

1. Marking archival holdings of University of Victoria Special Collections and University Archives within Wikidata (using property archives at (P485))

2. Adding information from the archival description within UVic's archival system to Wikidata - mostly biographical and organizational information (when it is appropriate to do so)

Wikidata Contribution Guidelines - UVic Libraries

edit

One of the main issues with Wikidata involvement is that there are almost endless possibilities for data entry. UVic has deliberately focused on various properties and values initially in order to allow for consistent querying of entities related to its holdings.

The following are more specific guidelines.

For information on experimentation around Wikidata involvement (as opposed to regularized practice) see the Experimentation page.

Archival Holdings

edit

Add for people or organizations who have archival holdings at University of Victoria Libraries when it is appropriate to do so.

Data Point Wikidata Property Content Instructions
Archival Holdings archives at (P485) Under the appropriate entity's Wikidata page, add the archives at property. Assign a value of University of Victoria Special Collections and University Archives (Q47518588). Add qualifier for inventory number (P217) and add the Record Group number of the archival fonds. Click on "Add reference" and select reference URL (P854) - adding the URL for the finding aid in UVic's archival system
