Wikidata:Events/Coordinate Me 2024/Nigeria
COORDINATE ME 2024 is an international Wikidata competition around content with geodata – from villages and hospitals to public art and natural monuments. Its goal is to improve or create Wikidata items which have a coordinate location (P625) property, in all focus countries. Join the competition right away or explore our various tools and resources. For beginners, there are Wikidata online workshops in French, German and Spanish.
The competition starts on 1 May 2024 and ends on 31 May 2024.
Wikidata editors from all over the world are invited to join the project. There are (equivalent) prizes for the top 30 participants, with a total value of 4500 euros. The focus countries reflect a wide diversity, both in terms of their local conditions and their current representation on Wikidata.

How to enroll edit

{{User CM24}} |
Ensure you log into the Nigeria Dashboard with your Wikimedia user account to contribute. Once you are enrolled, your edits to Wikidata items with a coordinate location (P625) during the competition are tracked in the Dashboard automatically. You don't necessarily have to change the geocoordinates, other changes to the item also count!
Rules edit
- The competition takes place from Wednesday, 1 May 2024, 00:00 UTC until Friday, 31 May 2024, 23:59 UTC.
- You need to be logged in on Wikidata with your user account (if you don't have one: create a Wikimedia user account).
- In order to participate, you have to join at least one Dashboard.
- You can enroll at any time during the competition. All of your relevant edits within the time frame of the competition will count, including in retrospect.
- The objective of the competition is to accumulate the most points.
- You earn points by editing Wikidata items which have coordinate locations and are connected to the focus countries.
- Only data collected in the Dashboards are taken into account when calculating the score.
- Bots are excluded from participation but you can use other editing tools.
- The score is calculated, and the results announced, about two weeks after the competition.
- You must allow other users to email you in your preferences so that we can reach you if you win a prize. You can collect your prize until the end of June 2024.
Scoring edit
- The score is calculated based on the Items Edited metrics in the Dashboard(s).
- 1 edited item (including newly created items) = 1 point.
- Since recent edits can take some time to appear in the Dashboards, interim results of all participants will be evaluated and published on the Results page every week.
Prizes edit
- Local prize: The top 3 participants will get souvenirs from Wikimedia UG Nigeria.
- International prize: The prices are vouchers for online shops and are provided by Wikimedia Austria. Each of the 30 winners will receive a voucher for 150 euros for the international prizes.
