retrieving AC identifiers from VIAF id's

Please see the VIAF id viaf:7524651 at Q868 Aristotle.

1. there is a linkable "xA" identifier; should we add such a request?
2. with the modified AC tool (as the test variant from [1]) one can see the WKP indication and additional identifiers
   Note: WKP is a fake / a hack please do not insert.
3. it would be possible to retrieve any of the national identifiers; some are using duplicate entries as LAC and BAV; one could propose additional properties depending on language community needs
4. it would be great help if Wikidata would define a dummy or test property for most data types ; I was searching for one with string datatype

BAV indicator

I noticed that the "Vatian Library" is using the prefix "ADV" as ADV10180492 in Q52570 Valdemar Langlet. I wonder if all BAV entries have this prefix or not. Thanks for any help on this question! Beest regards!

DBC identifier or DBC (Denmark) identifier

Q943567 Paul Goodman using viaf:14898058 contains DBC|8709791181544x in the "History of VIAF ID:14898058 (31) " section.
What do you think about adding a DBC identifier for the "Denmark (DBC)" authority control value linked to the VIAF records? My clone d:User:לערי ריינהארט/common.js version contains a line similar to:

DBC:{key:'DBC',p:0} , /* Denmark (DBC) */

NUKAT identifiers

Hello! I've seen all your suggestions and even started thread about it in our technical forum. I looked around in the net about the NUKAT identifiers and found document describing its format. However, the NUKAT interface allows only to search the data in its database using titles or author names. There is no interface to access specific records of data using the identifiers. The identifiers are used internally only to export the data in MARC standards (Q722609) format. There is an information in the NUKAT that they admit to cooperate with VIAF and OCLC. Until the NUKAT do not provide some interfaces to retrieve, validate or verify the identifiers defining the property to hold it is useless.

Technically the identifier format used since 2002 is l@yyyynnnnnn. Records assigned earlier have format l@@yynnnnnn. The l is letter (n, t, s, x, p or m), the @ is a space, yyyy is four digits year, yy last two digits of year and nnnnnn is a sequential number in the year, when the identifier was assigned. The specification is found here at page with number 16 (12th in PDF), and sorry it is in Polish only.

Hi! Yiddish Book Center (Q6979474) might use own identifiers.

CERL Thesaurus could be interesting. The European Library "identifier" is not useful as authority control. Since the records from the different libraries are not merged you will find three or more "identifiers" for a book. --Kolja21 (talk) 02:44, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

WorldCat identity

There is template Template:Authority control (Q3907614) and Module:Authority control (Q11640331) which use Library of Congress authority ID (P244) and VIAF ID (P214) to create WorldCat identity link. The LCCN has priority over VIAF. However there are exceptions. If exists both Library of Congress authority ID (P244) and VIAF ID (P214) there are cases when the identity should be created from VIAF instead of LCCN, or the WorldCat identity does not exist. Is it reasonable to create a new property to hold the value? It might be used only for exceptional cases, to define link using VIAF identifier, or specific LCCN value (if there is more than one, and the first does not work), or simply declare novalue. Imho WorldCat has not a real authority control ID. It's a library link that is using authority control. 5 persons merged in one "WorldCat identity" is not uncommon. (There is a feedback button for errors but rarely someone answers.) We should emphasize the difference between the work of librarians (LCAuth, GND etc.) and harvesting (VIAF & WorldCat). --Kolja21 (talk) 16:44, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

WordNet

I am wondering about WordNet synset. Has there been any discussion of this? One issue is that the WordNet identifiers changes from version to version, so "09288635-n" in WordNet 3.0 would be a "geyser" but not necessarily in WordNet 3.1. I note that BabelNet ID is presently suggested as a Wikidata property. I am particularly think that ImageNet identifiers could be interesting to capture. Their WordNet identifiers are formatted slightly different (at least the 2012 version in caffe), e.g., "n09288635". Is this just for people items?

Jane023: Wikidata has a lot of properties that link to identifiers in other databases for paintings, companies, bands, heritage sites etc. etc. etc. These look a lot like the 'authority control' properties for authors. Are these 'authority control' properties? No one seems to care. Are they discussed on this page? Sometimes yes. Sometimes on other 'Property Proposal' pages. @Filceolaire: Thanks for that. I guess I gathered as much. My concern comes from looking at the "properties" currently listed in the authority control template on the English Wikipedia. The same name would indicate a crosswiki project of some sort. I noticed that the few libraries included in the template on the English Wikipedia can no longer be expanded because the template has been protected. This is dangerous I think because the words "authority control" sound semi-official which of course it isn't (that is not to say those libraries stink or anything like that, but they are for example 80% about humans, and we offer so many more subjects on Wikipedia). I think this is an undesirable situation, and the properties here should also not be called authority control either, but library or somesuch. The artwork properties we have been adding are themselves authority controls for artworks and so forth. --Jane023 (talk) 10:58, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

@Jane023: en:Authority control is not only for persons and should not be confused with library properties like Library of Congress Control Number (LCCN) (bibliographic) (P1144). The template:Entities gives you an overview what authority control can be used for. The English en:Template:Authority control is independent from Wikidata. They can import whatever property they want and add their own links. (WorldCat IDs for example are not "real" authority files. @Jane023 a few months ago we got the ability to add claims to Properties. Since then many properties have had 'instance of (P31)' claims added and this has been used to describe properties as "authority control properties". Changing data type from string to external-id on several properties

I didn't know where else to post for help on this. I found ISNI (P213) which is set to string type but should be external-id. I found a lot more after pulling up Special:ListProperties/string and giving some others spot checks. I assume most are holdouts that were missed in the recent conversion. Could some property gurus with access please contribute some time to convert them? Its pretty obvious which need to be worked on - look for names with abbreviations or that have a formatter url property. -- Netoholic (talk) 16:47, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Broken template - 15 Jan 2020

Please improve the instructions on providing examples

Hi

I've tried to write a couple of property proposals and have been told that I have to provide examples, but there are no instructions on what is needed, it just says <!-- {{Q|1}} → value --> which doesn't make any sense. Can someone write some more instructions in the template so I know what to do?

Template include size is exceeded

At the bottom of the page it is in two ways visible that the page has too many (heavy) templates included on the page and the page is exceeding the limits. It has this category on it and at the bottom are now 12 subpages shown that are not included but automatically are only linked. It is great the page and templates used have all kinds of functionalities in them, but they are too heavy for the requests page. Some things that can be done:

• Making the used templates less heavy.
• Closing the old long standing requests with discussions and archiving them, by rejecting or approving them.
• Creating the properties for obvious cases earlier.
• Archiving requests for created properties earlier.
• ...

Syntax problem

Somewhere the syntax seems to be broken since the last 2 transclusions (Wikidata:Property proposal/jewishencyclopedia.com ID + Wikidata:Property proposal/Fancyclopedia 3 ID) appear only as page names and do not show in TOC. --WolfgangRieger (talk) 09:16, 22 August 2020 (UTC)

Template include size is exceeded (2)

It seems there's too much proposals, so some proposals don't show up at the bottom of the page and the page is categorized in Category:Pages where template include size is exceeded. I don't know what the technical solution is to address this issue. --Deansfa (talk) 21:06, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

However, it ought to be: https://www.aucklandmuseum.com/collection/object/am_person-$1

That would be just for people, but could it be expanded to incorporate objects?

List on property proposal page

HI, I can't seem to get my property proposal to appear in the list. It shows up way at the end and I am not sure how to edit the page appropriately. I believe, from previous threads, that the template has exceeded its size. Would just like to get this property proposal approved so I can begin work on my project. Please advise. Thank you
