Here's a template you can use for proposing a session for the Data Reuse Days 2025. Feel free to copy its content and create a new section below! (use the session title as the section title). Please note that sessions are not automatically accepted: because we have limited slots in the schedule, we will make a selection of sessions that can make it to the program of the event. You can propose a session until January 12th.
Here's what we're looking for in particular:
- Short presentations/demos of a tool or application using Wikidata's data
- Discussions and presentations aiming to connect Wikidata editors with reusers
- Explanation and demos on how to use the technical infrastructure to reuse Wikidata's data (Query Service, APIs, dumps, etc.)
Thanks in advance for your proposals! Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 08:29, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

- Session title: Leveraging Wikidata for Ontological Mappings in SSSOM
- Format: Presentation + Q&A (25min)
- Speaker(s) or facilitator(s): User:AndraWaag Andra Waagmeester and Nico Matentzoglu
- Short description of the session: Wikidata is a powerful resource for semantic integration, with over 12,000 properties, more than two-thirds (9,208 out of 12,342, as per this query) serving as external identifiers. These identifiers, combined with explicit mappings (e.g., P2888) and inferred mappings using formatter URLs (P1921), make Wikidata a key hub for linking datasets and mapping entities across diverse domains. The Simple Standard for Sharing Ontological Mappings (SSSOM) is a community-driven framework that standardizes the exchange of semantic mappings to improve interoperability, discoverability, and reusability. However, creating high-quality SSSOM mappings is labor-intensive. By leveraging Wikidata’s rich identifier mappings and its SPARQL infrastructure (Wikidata Query Service, WDQS), the process can be streamlined to generate SSSOM-compliant tables or RDF representations efficiently. We will explain how you can both extract SSSOM mappings from Wikidata as well as using Wikidata as a sustainable infrastructure to host SSSOM-compliant mappings.
- Prerequisite knowledge: Very basic understanding of WDQS and the Wikidata REST API
- Suggestions of time and date: Before February 23
- Preferred presentation mode: Live
Andrawaag (talk) 22:45, 11 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
- Hi @Andrawaag:, as we discussed, we currently scheduled the session on February 24th at 18:30 UTC. We also have a possibility on 26th at 18:30 UTC. If you cannot attend live, we can offer you to record the presentation as a video and send it to us before February 10th, and we'll play it on your behalf during the live session. Keep me updated if this solution works for you. Thanks for your understanding! Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 09:17, 21 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
- I am afraid I have to retract my proposal. The week of the 24th is really busy for me, since I am participating in another live event and I would like to leverage most of that time. I could record, but I am not sure I have enough time to commit before feb 10. It might be better to postpone this topic to the next edition of the reuse days. As we're evaluating the proposals and trying to fit them into the program, I was wondering if you could make yourself available on Thursday 27th at 17:00 or 17:30 UTC. That would allow us to include your talk nicely next to another one that also talks about libraries and authors. Alternatively, you could record the session and send it to us? Many thanks in advance! - Session title: Multilinguality score of Wikidata items and properties
- Format: Presentation (including demonstration) + Q&A (25min)
- Speaker(s) or facilitator(s): John Samuel (User:Jsamwrites)
- Short description of the session: Understanding the language coverage of a complete Wikidata item or property is more challenging compared to other Wikimedia projects like Wikipedia, Wikivoyage or Wikisource. Traditionally, efforts have focused on ensuring the translation of labels, descriptions, and aliases. However, Wikidata items contain statements beyond these key elements. This session introduces a tool called mlscore, which leverages the WDQS (Wikidata Query Service) to gather necessary data and calculate the language coverage of Wikidata item(s). The presentation will also explore the tool's underlying architecture, providing insights into its functionality and design.
- Prerequisite knowledge: Basic understanding of Wikidata and some knowledge of WDQS
- Suggestions of time and date: February 18, 19 or 21

- Hi @Daniel Mietchen: and thanks a lot for your proposal. Unfortunately, we have to decline it as we couldn't find a way to connect it well enough with the topic of the event and the other sessions, and your availability didn't match with the days we defined for the event. Nevertheless, we hope you can attend the event, participate in the Q&A sessions and take the occasion to discuss with other tool builders.
