Wikidata and Sister Projects (29 May-1 June): check out the program!

edit

Hello everyone,

Our upcoming online event, the Wikidata and Sister Projects, is coming soon, starting on May 29th!

The event will be focusing on how Wikidata is integrated to Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects.

The event is taking place online, we will have sessions taking place over 4 days, from May 29 to June 1, 2025. You will be able to join sessions live, or to watch the replay later on. The sessions take place in English, and are open to everyone interested in the topic of data reuse.

You can now discover a first version of the program. We will feature among other things:

  • Presentations on how Wikidata is being used within another Wikimedia Project;
  • Live-editing sessions to put into practice watch how others do it (Wikidata map-making, SPARQL query)
  • Social time and Wikidata-based games!

We are using the new CampaignEvents Extension that allows us to have a registration list onwiki! If you plan to attend, we strongly encourage you to register on the event page so you can receive updates about the event and access the Jitsi room link.

While waiting for the event to take place, you can also rewatch some sessions from our Levelling Up Days takeover day in 2024.

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to write on the talk page or to reach out to me directly. We’re looking forward to holding this event with you! Best, - Danny Benjafield (WMDE) (talk) 10:00, 13 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello everyone,

We are about to kick-off the Wikidata and Sister Projects online event, focusing on how Wikidata is used, supports and interacts with the sister (or sibling) Wikimedia Projects.

How to attend: if you want to join the Jitsi room in order to interact with speakers and other participants, you can register on the event page in order to unlock access to the Jitsi link. You can also watch the livestream on Youtube, links will be published on the program table. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to write on the Discussion page or to reach out to me directly. We hope you enjoy the event! Google slides "Presenter view" with Jitsi

edit

Hello all,

I've never presented over Jitsi, and I also don't have extensive experience with Google slides presentations. I'd like to use the "Presenter view", so the notes show up on my screen, in a separate small window, and of course only the slides show up for the audience. I'm planning to share a single Chrome tab which contains the slides, and start the presentation by choosing "Presenter view" from the Slideshow menu. Just wondering if this is known to work reliably. Thanks. DMartin (WMF) (talk) 03:41, 29 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello @DMartin (WMF), you are welcome to join the Jitsi room early to test out your slidedeck and the presentation options if you wish.
From my own testing, I observe that:
  • Firefox has some slight lag issues when switching slides, with slight flickering between the 2 slides for ~0.5 sec. I prefer Chromium, which seems more seamless.
  • Full Screen mode is not available with Presenter mode, so please beware that in Presenter-mode, the viewers will be able to see your Address bar, bookmark bar and any other tabs you have open. See you soon -Danny Benjafield (WMDE) (talk) 11:28, 29 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello everyone,

We just concluded the event, with 16 sessions over 4 days and more than 17 speakers involved!

Do you want to catch up on the sessions? The full-day replay videos are here for you! You can find links to the days program on YouTube and watch the recordings at your own pace. Videos for individual sessions will also be added there in the next weeks and also to Wikimedia Commons.

If you attended parts of the event, we’re interested in your feedback. Please take a few minutes to fill out the feedback form until June 15th, it will only take a few minutes.

You can also join the UX testing mailing list if you agree to be contacted by Wikimedia Deutschland’s UX team to try out and give feedback on upcoming Wikidata features.

And finally: the big upcoming event for Wikidata is the return of WikidataCon 2025, taking place from October 31 to November 2. You can already register onwiki.

Thanks to all those who spoke, participated, chatted and helped support and organise this first Wikidata and Sister Projects event, we hope to see you at the next one! - Danny Benjafield (WMDE) (talk) 11:10, 2 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Post-event survey findings

edit

Hello everyone,

The Wikidata and Sister Projects online event has been over for a while now and we hope it remains more than a distant memory. Recordings, discussions and presentations are available from the main Event page via Commons and YouTube.

Also available now on Commons, the Wikidata and Sister Projects - Feedback Survey Summary contains raw data, insights and commentary on what went well and what could be improved for future editions. - Danny Benjafield (WMDE) (talk) 12:44, 10 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
