Object history
  • L'oeuvre est retrouvée au château de Celle (Nord de Hanovre) à la fin de la guerre, avec l'étiquette : "garde-meubles public Bedel et Cie 67764" et l'inscription au crayon "E. Feuchtinger" (1) ;
  • la fiche du Central Collecting Point de Wiesbaden (collective pour les numéros allant de 4045 à 4057) (2) indique seulement comme "presumed owner : Kaiser-Wilhelm Museum und Heimatmuseum der Niederrhein, Krefeld", mais le numéro 4054 porté au revers du châssis est-il bien un numéro de Wiesbaden ? L'oeuvre est rapatriée par le premier convoi en provenance de Celle ;
  • retenue lors de la quatrième commission de choix des oeuvres de la récupération artistique du 21 décembre 1949 ;
  • attribué au musée du Louvre (département des Peintures) par l'Office des Biens et Intérêts Privés en 1950, attribution confirmée en 1951 (3) ;
  • déposé au Mobilier national de 1950 (Ambassade de Londres) (4) au 14 avril 1999 (5), date de son retour au musée du Louvre.
