Description00919022 Mahadeva Kshetram temple, Thiruvannur Kozhikode Kerala 050.jpg
English: Sree Mahadeva Kshetram of Thiruvannur is an 8th or 9th century Hindu temples complex, with the primary temple dedicated to Shiva. It is notable for being among the early apsidal plan temples that follow the Sanskrit texts on temple architecture.
The Mahadeva temple shows influences of Chola architecture in its pilasters, pillars and artwork. The site is the source of an inscription that records a land grant and mentions "Thiruvannur" and the Raja Chera.
Based on ruins and records discovered near here, the Mahadeva Kshetra was likely a part of a lost Hindu monastery-college that offered Vedic and Vedanta studies. The current complex includes a Bhagavati shrine and a Krishna shrine – thus this historic temples complex included all three major Hindu traditions: Shaiva, Vaishnava and Devi. To the east of the complex is the historic temple tank.
