Summary

Description
English: The Maniyoor Shree Subrahmanya Swamy temple is an 11th century Hindu temples complex in northern Kerala. The primary shrine is dedicated to Subrahmanya Swami, while other shrines are dedicated to Ganesha, Dakshinamurthy, Ayyappa and Surya Narayana. Near the complex are additional Hindu temples such as a Krishna temple.

The Maniyur Subrahmanya Swamy temple has prakara walls made of laterite, parts of which are in ruinned condition. The primary temple is two storey (dvitala) sandhara type with a mukhamandapam and two antaralas. The steps into the square floor plan sanctum (sopanam) consists of four steps shaped in the form of Vyali-mukham. Inside is Subrahmanya statue in Chola style. In front of the sanctum is a 16 pillar Namaskaram-mandapam. The temple also has a chuttambalam (nalambalam), in a style found in early north and central Kerala, as well as northwest Tamil Nadu.

This historic site is the source of inscriptions. Its laterite walls have reliefs depicting scenes of Hindu epics and Puranas. The architectural elements of ceiling have figurines in wood in north Kerala style. These figurines are also characters and deities from Hindu legends.
