Three-quarter length, life-size, standing to his left; long darkhair, short pointed beard; scarlet furred gown and coat, largelinen ruff and cuffs, Lord Mayor s gold chain and pendantbadge; the right hand hanging down, the forefinger of the leftsupporting a pearl pendant from the badge; sword of state to hisleft. Canvas, 44 inches high x 35 inches.Purchased in 1876. At a Court held on April 27, 1876, the Master reportedthat in accordance with the authority given to him and hisWardens by the Court of the 16th ultimo, they had consultedMr. C. Buttery as to the worth of the picture of Sir Abraham Reynardson offered to the Company by Mr. Vialls, and as thatgentleman gave it as his opinion that the portrait is genuine,valuable, and probably painted by Janssens, they had purchasedit for one hundred guineas. Son of Thomas Reynardson, of Plymouth, and Julian (Brace)his wife. Born 1590; Turkey merchant; apprenticed to Edmund James, 86
