Español: Las artes plásticas aparecen representadas por una paleta cargada de pinceles y una cabeza antigua, la música por una partitura, las letras por un tintero y varios libros, y la geografía por un globo terráqueo. El carácter de vánitas de la obra aparece subrayado por la presencia de una calavera coronada de laurel en la parte izquierda del lienzo, inequívoco símbolo del triunfo de la muerte y de la vanidad de los logros terrenales. La simbología de la obra parece clara: la inutilidad de acumular saberes y fama ante la inexorabilidad de la muerte.
