Notes Possibly depicting a male prostitute, "as in early 17th century Rome sexual trade in boys flourished in certain inns and taverns, and above all on and around Piazza Navona". The authors of "Power, Gender, and Ritual in Europe and the Americas: Essays in Memory of Richard C. Trexler" (pages 118-119) also cite that in 1610, a guardsman conveyed multiple reports that "a certain Giovannino, alias il Pollarolo, a beardless youth, exercises the trade of bardassa and in the evening he goes to Piazza Navona to get picked up by this one and that one to be sodomized and to earn money from it".
