Description |
Scenes from the life of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. In the background, left, Elizabeth is left in the care of the brother-in-law of her husband, Louis, before his departure to the Holy Land. On the foreground, left: After the death of Louis and expelled from Wartburg, Elizabeth receives a wounded man in her hospital in Marburg, where she tends the sick. To the right Elizabeth on her deathbed accompanied by Master Conrad and a praying nun. Two angels carry her soul to heaven. In the top her body is being burried by two Franciscan monks. Inner right wing of an altarpiece with scenes from the life of Saint Elizabeth and the St. Elizabeth's flood of 18-19 November 1421, the central panel of which is now lost. The two remaining wings have been sawn in two parts so that the interior (inv.nos. SK-A-3145 and SK-A-3146) and the exterior (inv.nos. SK-A-3147-A and SK-A-3147-B) are now separated. |
