Notes The saint to the left of the Virgin is Saint John the Evangelist. To the right is Saint Nicholas of Bari, the 4th-century Archbishop of Myra, with the three golden spheres which he gave to three young women who could not afford a dowry. The Christ Child picks up one of these balls. The painting has been damaged and retouched, but may be an autograph work by Cima, probably from his late period.
