This plate comes from a large service produced for a member of the Pucci family, prominent Florentine art patrons and ancestors of 20th-century fashion designer Emilio Pucci. Highly decorated maiolica plates such as this were displayed for commemorative purposes and to emphasize the wealth of the family through the prominence of their coat of arms.
