English: Fossil sea cliff at Steigerberg hill, Lower Oligocene (30 mya) coastal cliff made up of Lower Permian volcanic rocks (Kreuznach Rhyolite): Eroded paleocliff with intertidal zone (yellowish smooth rock) and supratidal zone (weatherd reddish rock above) showing two wave-cut notches (one at the mean high tide level at the top of the intertidal zone and a less pronounced one at the mean low tide level at the base of the intertidal zone). In the right lower foreground drilling marks from quarrying are visible. The left background of the image shows the sandy and gravely caprocks of the Alzey Formation. Mainz Basin, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany[1]
