Title
Cosmetic pestle
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy centre-looped cosmetic pestle of probable Romano-British date. The pestle is D-shaped in section, crescentic and with a slight ridge along its outer edge perhaps resultant from use-wear(?). It has a central suspension loop comprising a sub-rectangular neck with central triangular indentations on both faces. At the top of the neck is an integral circular loop with central circular aperture that shows signs of use-wear at its upper edge. The entire object measures 20.44mm in height, 28.23mm in width, 4.14mm in thickness and 3.56g in weight.

This is a cosmetic pestle designed for use in conjunction with a mortar. Similar examples are published by Jackson (2010: no. 590) and suggest a probable Roman date for the current object, c.43-410 AD.
