English: The College of Engineering's winter 2018 Distinguished Lecture was delivered on Jan. 30 by Dr. Katherine T. Faber, Simon Ramo Professor of Materials Science at the California Institute of Technology.
Her talk, “Probing Pore Space: Crafting Porous Ceramics for Applications From Biology to Sustainability," explored the fracture and toughening of brittle materials. In her lecture, she discussed ceramics for energy-related applications including thermal and environmental barrier coatings for power generation components and porous solids for filters and flow.
