English: Figures made from nuts of the palms which grow on the coastest. The nuts harden due to the sun's wormth and resemble genuine ivory. This material is used by local artist to make figures and jewellery. Spanish colonisers used it for making buttons, umbrella handles, walking sticks, pipes.
Polski: Figury wykonane z "roślinnej kości słoniowej", czyli z orzechów palm kokosowych rosnących na wybrzeżu. Pod wpływem ciepła słonecznego orzechy wysychają i upodabniają się do kości słoniowej. Lokalni artyści wykonują z tego tworzywa figurki i biżuterię. Hiszpańscy kolonizatorzy używali go do wykonywania guzików, rączek do parasoli, lasek, fajek. |
