Nederlands: Max was de hond van de Joodse familie Levie die alleen achterbleef toen de familie op 28 oktober 1942 werd gedeporteerd naar concentratiekampen, waar ze allen omkwamen. De familie Levie woonde op Voorstraat 14a te Spijkenisse. Nadat de hond enkele dagen trouw de wacht hield voor het pand, werd hij door kolenboer Aart Versteeg opgevangen.
Beeldhouwer Tineke Nusink maakte het beeld in opdracht van de stichting Max XL; het werd onthuld op 28 oktober 2022.
