Nederlands: Het werk van Jan Provoost wordt gekenmerkt door kleurrijke, mekaar overlappende figuren. De voornaamste zijn gekopieerd van gravures of schilderijen, onder meer van Rogier van der Weyden. De hond is dan weer een kopie van een detail uit een werk van Albrecht Dürer. Een aantal figuren horen niet thuis in het schilderij en zijn afbeeldingen van personen die Provoost kende. In de achtergrond is Brugge te zien met de intussen verdwenen Sint-Donaaskerk en het steen De Zeven Torens.
