Description
English: The sleepy bather is a work of Auguste Renoir, painted in 1897. The model would be Gabrielle Renard, the nanny of his son Jean Renoir, or Amélie Diéterle, the artist of the Variety Theater. Both became the painter's muses. This painting is part of the collection of Amélie Diéterle until 1920. Note that Gabrielle Renard was dark hair and that Amélie Diéterle was blond in Renoir's portraits. This opposition between a brown dullness to a light blond is found in the portrait of Miss Amélie Diéterle (Tea Time 1911) by Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
