Nr. 1416 ----------------------------------------- Die Kreuzigung Christi gehört zu den frühesten Werken des älteren Cranach. Sie entstand vermutlich auf der Wanderschaft nach seiner Wiener Zeit an einem unbekannten Ort, kurz bevor der Künstler zum Hofmaler Friedrichs des Weisen berufen wurde. Anders als in traditionellen Darstellungen stellt er die Kreuze hier - wie für ein perspektivisches Lehrstück - schräg in den Raum. Zum Mittelpunkt des Bildes wird so die mit dem Sohn leidende Mutter Maria Vorbild für den Gläubigen, der seinerseits aufgefordert ist, das Leiden Christi zu betrachten.
