Nederlands: Portret van Pieter Ernst Hendrik Praetorius, makelaar, tekenaar en schilder. Voorzitter van de raad van bestuur van het Rijksmuseum 1852-1874. Zittende halffiguur, naar rechts kijkend. Gekleed in een donker kostuum met wit plastron. De rechterhand steunt tegen het gezicht, terwijl de elleboog op een map met tekeningen rust waar zijn naam op één van de uitstekende bladen voorkomt. Rechts tegen het tafelkleed een stukje van de stoelleuning.
English: Portrait of Pieter Ernst Hendrik Praetorius, , Broker, Draftsman and Painter. Chairman of the Board of the Rijksmuseum 1852-74. An image of the upper torso, then kijkend to the right. Dressed in a sombre suit with a waist-coat. The right hand side is shown, then the elbow on a map with his name written on one of the protruding leaves of paper. On the right there is a chalkboard with a piece of wood.
