Description
English: So-called Portrait of Maria Josepha of Austria (1699-1757), but is probably a depiction of Friederike Charlotte of Brandenburg-Schwedt (1745-1808), abbess of Herford.
  • Identification proposed by user Ecummenic (talk) based on the the presence of the insignia of the Abbess of Hertford (badge and crozier), the comparison with a younger portrait of Friederike Charlotte of Brandenburg (see image below), and the lack of physical resemblance of the sitter of this portrait to other representations of Maria Josepha of Austria.
Date dated by the museum in 1740 -1750 ?, but based on the sitter's clothing and hairstyle it can be dated between 1750 and 1800
