Do, ni defaire une critique de sa disposition, nous demanderons seulementsi sa troisième partie naurait pas pu être fondue avantageusementdans les deux autres. Le livre de M. Do, nous venons de le dire, sadresse aux savants ;il doit en avoir reçu bon accueil. Que de semblables travaux sepublient dans chaque diocèse, que chacun apporte ainsi sa part ducontingent et bientôt la grande question chronologique de loriginede la Foi dans les Gaules sera définitivement résolue. RUINES DE LÃGLISE SAINT-HIPPOLYTE à Paris- ^ Il existe, rue Saint-Hippolyte, dans le douzième arron-dissement, des restes dune église qui fut construite sousle vocable de Saint-Hippolyte. Dabord, comme beaucoupdautres églises et même Notre-Dame de Paris, elle ne futquune simple chapelle. On na que des données peu certainessur lépoque de sa construction comme sur celle de son érec-tion en paroisse; ce quon sait seulement, cest quelle dépen-dait du chapitre de Saint-Marcel. Il en est fait mention dansune bulle dAdrien IV, du 26 juin 1158. On attribue le nomquelle porte à la dévotion toute particulière que le bon roiRobert avait pour le Saint de ce nom, martyrisé à Rome enlan 244, sous lempereur Dèce, le treizième jour daoût. Le corps de ce Saint fut déposé dès lan 715 à Saint-De-nis, où le pieux roi allait assister chaque année à loffice proprede ce saint Martyr.
