Arms of Hardwick: Argent, a saltire engrailed azure on a chief of the second three cinquefoils of the first, inescutcheon of pretence displayed by Richard Wingfield (d.1591), for his heiress wife Mary Hardwick

Portrait of Richard Wingfield (d.1591) (by Robert Peake the Elder, dated 1587 (and dated 20 Dec. in a later hand)). He married firstly Mary Hardwick, a daughter and co-heiress of John Hardwick of Derbyshire - hence the inescutcheon of Hardwick on the coat of arms. Formerly identified as his great-granduncle Humphrey Wingfield (b. before 1481, d. 1545). Arms: Quarterly of 26, with inescutcheon of pretence of Hardwick overall (Hardwick: Argent, a saltire engrailed azure on a chief of the second three cinquefoils of the first):
