Midway Plaisance bordered by 59th Street (left) and 60th Street ('Barre Sliding Railway' tracks built just for the fair) looking eastwards towards Lake Michigan (visible in the distance). In the foreground on the left: German Village and Javanese Village (section of the Dutch Settlement); in the foreground on the right: Turkish Village with fountain and replica of the Obelisk of Theodosius, Café Concert, Indoor Panorama building of the Bernese Alps (Switzerland) with Swiss flag on top, Natatorium and south part of the Dutch settlement. After the viaduct on the left: Japanese Bazar, Irish Village, Libby Glass Company and the 'Electric scenic theater'; after the viaduct on the right: Hagenbeck's Arena for animal exhibit shows, behind - not visible in the photo - Venice Murano glass company and the Sliding railway station. The black line is the bridge of the Illinois Central Railroad facing the main entrance gate to the exposition, the International Dress and Costume Company Building (left) and the Village of the Irish Industries Association (right). The large white exhibition halll is the Woman's Building, the domes belong to the Illinois State Building (left) and the US Government Building (right) all located at the north end of the lagoon.
