HICKS, member from Wolfeborough, was born inWolfeborough, April 14, 1855. He is theson of Nathaniel and Betsey (Watson)Hicks. He was educated in the publicschools, and passed his boyhood on hisfathers farm. At the age of seventeenyears he entered the employ of I. W.Springfield, blanket manufacturer, atvSouth Wolfeborough, and since he wastwenty-one years old has been foreman ofthe factory. He has been two terms onthe board of supervisors, one term aschairman, and moderator. Coming of aDemocratic family he became a Republi-can when a boy, and ascribes his conver-sion to his having read Uncle TomsCabin. He is a Mason of the third

He married Nov. 27, 1877, Carrie S.Rollins, of Alton. Children, four—oneliving, Nathaniel G. HON. EDWARD B. S. SANBORN, Member from Franklin, was born inCanterbury, August 11, 1833. Heis the son of Smith Sanborn. He grad-uated from Dartmouth College, class ofof 1855. He read law with Hon. Geo.W. Nesmith and was admitted to thebar in 1857. He was a member of theHouse in 1873, 1874, 1879, 1881, 1882and 1889. and of the ConstitutionalConvention in 1876. He was a memberof the first board of railroad commis-sioners, under the present law. TrueL. Norris gave him the following in thePortsmmith Daily Times: The member of this legislature, whofills the galleries, the speakers rostrum,and all the seats in the house of repre-sentatives, is the gentleman from Frank-lin, the Hon. E. B. S.
