Object history given
Notes Unlike what the Ateneum title states, the painting likely depicts a golden eagle from the Old Kalevala (1835) that Alanen depicted in another painting as well: https://twitter.com/Suom1nen/status/1233346379122184192. The bird later changed to a goldeneye in the standard New Kalevala (1849) along with a few other changes to the origin story. The birds play a part in creation of the world in both versions.
