Description
Aunque Carlos de Haes fue en España el instaurador de la pintura al aire libre, no siempre plasmó del natural sus paisajes, siendo éste un ejemplo de la pintura realizada en el taller a la vista de los apuntes que había tomado directamente en la playa de San Juan de Luz. Centra la composición la imagen de una barca encallada y destrozada en la playa frente a la inmensidad del mar. Las imágenes de los barcos varados o a la deriva centraron parte de la temática de Haes en el periodo concreto de su vida en que se vio apartado de su entorno familiar.
