Photo of actress Yang Ayli {Aili} also known as Olive Young. Young was born in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1907 and became an important star in Chinese motion pictures. She was billed as the Mary Pickford of China at one point.
She returned to the United States and had some film roles, but was no longer appearing in films after 1931. This photo was taken in 1939; Young had become part of the Royal American Shows--at one point this was the largest traveling carnival in the US. Young was married to Dr. Alfred Lum; she died in New Jersey in 1940.
There are no copyright marks on the photo front or back. A search for original copyright registrations was done in artwork for the year 1939. There were no listings for Royal American Shows. There's no evidence of this photo being under copyright.
