Multiple values

If often happens that the same item has several VIAF entries example. Could we add a link for all of them ? --Zolo (talk) 13:57, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, done! --Ricordisamoa 14:54, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

LCCN

Hi Ricordisamoa, I love your script: It's a great help! Can you add LCCN with the format n/79/22935 (Vincent van Gogh)? It's the way the authority templates use the LCCN (see: Property talk:P244). We also could change the format to "n79022935" but than we have to find a way how to synchronize Wikidata with the templates/infoboxes. --Kolja21 (talk) 22:15, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

Well, the actual standard format on Wikidata seems to be without slashes (though some items have with slashes, too) so I don't know. --Ricordisamoa 23:26, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
It's not decided what standard we should use. Do you have any preferences? --Kolja21 (talk) 00:58, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Gadget

I think this script is sufficiently important to make it a gadget. I even think that it should be activated by default, so that newbies coming to the sites are not greeted with obscure IDs that lead to nowhere. --Zolo (talk) 21:40, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Yes, me too: see this. --Ricordisamoa 21:54, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Make it work within sources

Can it be made when the property is used within a source ? See Q12418 --Zolo (talk) 17:15, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

  Done on my local version --Ricordisamoa 08:36, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, it seems to work. However, as I had both your local version and the gadget activated, I noticed a strang behavior: the link in the source was duplicated. When I remove one of the two version, it works fine, but I am wondering if that indicates some flaw in the script. --Zolo (talk) 08:53, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
Definitely not at all: it simply doesn't check if the link is already present, it creates the link anyway. --Ricordisamoa 09:11, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
I am just wondering why it creates two links in the sources, but just one in other places. --Zolo (talk) 09:19, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
Don't whirl your brain: simply disable the user-version! ;-) --Ricordisamoa 09:23, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

P244

Somehow the link doesn't seem to work, e.g. on Q25225. Would you change it to:

244: 'http://lccn.loc.gov/$1', // LCCN

Thanks. --  Docu  at 03:56, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

  Comment It seems to work fine, but as I wonder why this format is not used in Wikipedia. I would rather wait for opinion from user:Maximilianklein. --Zolo (talk) 05:14, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
I get a 404 at http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/sh2011004315.html
What did you get? -- Docu at 05:55, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
So did I, I meant your solution seems to work fine, but I still would like to know why it was not used in other wikis before I change it here. --Zolo (talk) 05:58, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
It seems that for subjects, the equivalent link should be http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2011004315.html
The correct one is available through the "LC Authorities & Vocabularies", e.g. on http://lccn.loc.gov/sh2011004315 -- Docu at 06:17, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
Right, this is because the current LCCN build path is made for Name authorites, and not Subject authorities. Maximilianklein (talk) 17:02, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
Is there a reason why we shouldn't change it as I suggested above? -- Docu at 17:18, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Broken LCCN

Hi,

Not sure if this should be raised on Property_talk:P244 or here: the link is broken for Q7416, though I believe I used the correct layout for the number (if not apologies for the inconvenience :)

Thanks, Jean-Fred (talk) 12:38, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

OSM Relation Link

I was just thinking: Maybe we should rather link the osm rel to its page instead of a map showing the shape. In this case line 37 should be changed from http://www.openstreetmap.org/?relation=$1 to http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/$1.

The page contains much more meta informations that can be used to verify/compare the existing data --Shisma (talk) 09:03, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

I don't know. For those of us who do not contribute to Openstreetmap, the map looks more inspiring. On the other hand it is easy to switch from the shape to the map, while I could not figure out how to do it the other way around without manually changing the URL. --Zolo (talk) 10:23, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

you could put two links. but this would require an additional routine only for this case. I could write it, but I don't have the permissions--Shisma (talk) 11:39, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, but I think two links would be a bit cumbersome, and would not add much, as the maps is accessible from the shape. If the link to the shape itself is needed for many people, I would rather just replace the map with the shape. --Zolo (talk) 12:41, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

WikiSpecies integration with taxon name (P225)

I created User:The Anonymouse/AuthorityControl.js as a copy of this script with a link to WikiSpecies using taxon name (P225). If there aren't any objections, we could add this to the list. The Anonymouse (talk) 06:55, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

No opjection. --Tobias1984 (talk) 15:55, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
  Comment: From what I've read here, this property should be using MultilingualTextValue instead of string. This problem was discussed back in March, but the discussion quickly went stale. Unless there is any objection to changing the value type, I think this should wait until the introduction of multilingualtextvalue. --Wylve (talk) 17:32, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
You might mean monolingual text if we ever get that. Do you have a link to such discussion?
As the property is used 400000 times, you might as well put it to use as its now. If conversion is needed later, no problem. -- Docu at 17:37, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
The discussion can be found on the property talk page. And I do mean multilingual text, as the taxon name is the same when used in any language. Strings should not be used, as strings do not convey language information, and taxon names do. --Wylve (talk) 01:48, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand, all taxon names are in Latin, so why would language info be important? The Anonymouse (talk) 03:57, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
I think it might be worth pursuing this discussion on the property's talk page, but the question for this page is only whether WikiSpecies is a valid site to link or not. -- Docu at 06:09, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
@Anonymouse: Yes, we know that taxon names are in Latin, but machines don't. They see it as a unicode character sequence. Hope my understanding is accurate. I don't think most of us actually knows the difference between strings, monolingual texts and multilingual texts. Each of the datatype should be described in more detail somewhere. Anyway, per Docu, ignoring the datatype problem, I do not object to Wikispecies integration, and bots can help if the data type does need changing in the future. I'm also confused why multilingual projects cannot have sitelinks integrated into items like wikipedia and wikivoyage links. --Wylve (talk) 11:00, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Is it possible to make the link depend on the user's language ? For instance P:P454 should link to http://en.structurae.de/structures/data/index.cfm?ID=$1 in English but http://fr.structurae.de/structures/data/index.cfm?$1 in French.--Zolo (talk) 20:26, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, but there should be some kind of fallback: the link only works if language is de, en or fr. --Zolo (talk) 06:59, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Here is a fallback:

var m;

454: 'http://' + ( ( m = mw.config.get( 'wgUserLanguage' ).match( /^(de|en|fr)(-|$)/ ) ) ? m[1] : 'en' ) + '.structurae.de/structures/data/index.cfm?ID=$1', // Structurae ID

--Fomafix (talk) 09:26, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

I missed a bracket. The var m; is still missing. --Fomafix (talk) 12:24, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
It's working well, however. --Ricordisamoa 12:49, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

				// low surrogate
				return ( ( value & 0x3FF ) << 10 ) + ( extra & 0x3FF ) + 0x10000;
			}
		}
		return value;
	}

after 486: …:

after if( k == 213 ) …:

Authority Control values and hacks - parameter representation - url generation

I remembered the "keep it simple" principle. The following Authority Control properties contradict it:

  1. LCCN discussed at several places - no additional issues today
    LCCN:{key:'LCCN',p:244} · T · Database reports/Constraint violations
  2. ISNI:{key:'ISNI',p:213} · T · Database reports/Constraint violations
  3. BNF:{key:'BNF',p:268} · T · Database reports/Constraint violations
  4. SBN identifier Property:P396 (aliased ICCU?)
    SBN:{key:'SBN',p:396} · T · Database reports/Constraint violations
    see examples at Q1401 Petrarch

While the ISNI issue is a simple formating issue. The BNF requires other values as parameter and as link and the ICCU requires a parameter trailer. לערי ריינהארט (talk) 14:12, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Updates and additions for molecular biology properties

Several widely-used molecular biology properties could use better URL mappings. RELN (Q414043) and reelin (Q13569356) are two model items used by WD:MBTF -- examples of each property below can be found on those items. Emw (talk) 12:45, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Updates

From: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=gene&cmd=retrieve&dopt=default&list_uids=$1
To: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene/$1
Example: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene/5649

There are a few properties that map biological sequences to identifiers in Ensembl, a database of the European Bioinformatics Institute:

'Ensembl Gene ID' currently has the URL pattern http://www.ensembl.org/Homo_sapiens/Gene/Summary?db=core;g=$1 -- notice 'Homo_sapiens'. However, the property is also applicable to genes on other kinds of organisms, like mouse.

For example the mouse gene Reln (Q14331135) has a P594 entry of ENSMUSG00000042453, which goes to http://www.ensembl.org/Homo_sapiens/Gene/Summary?db=core;g=ENSMUSG00000042453. If you click on that, you'll see that it goes to a page saying "Gene 'ENSMUSG00000042453' not found". That's because ENSMUSG00000042453 is a mouse gene, not a human gene. The URL should be http://www.ensembl.org/Mus_musculus/Gene/Summary?db=core;g=ENSMUSG00000042453 -- notice 'Mus_musculus' in the URL.

So the Ensembl ID properties actually need two keys to make a valid URL -- taxon name and sequence ID. In practice, these properties are only used on human (Homo sapiens) and mouse (Mus musculus). Which taxon name should be used can be deduced by inspecting the found in taxon (P703) value for the item the Ensembl ID property is used in. If the item's P703 value is Q5, then the Ensembl URL should have 'Homo_sapiens', else if the value is Q83310, then the Ensembl ID URL should have 'Mus_musculus' in it. If the item does not have a P703 value, then no URL should appear on the Ensembl ID property value.

Is it possible to enhance this script to account for that? Emw (talk) 12:45, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

URLENCODEbug

Hi! Please see https://www.wikidata.org/?oldid=83029501#URLENCODEbug

re:

244: 'http://lccn.loc.gov/$1', // LCCN

Please assure that $1 is properly URLENCODED . I do not have sufficient Javascript and MediaWiki knowledge. Please see Wikidata:Project chat#first General Punctuation character detected stating

I was fixing Wikidata:Database reports/Constraint violations/P244 about Library of Congress authority ID (P244) when I discovered the first General Punctuation character. Please take a look at Talk:Q1162700 where you see:
Please do not delete the first LCCN (at Daniel Shays (Q1162700) ). The generated url is http://lccn.loc.gov/n79114009%E2%80%8F with an ending %E2%80%8F
...

This is a typical case where documentation is lost. The striked link generated by the bot user:KrBot would / might work at older browsers but it does not work with the newest versions of FF. Below is a copy (with minor modifications) of the testcase line:

Daniel Shays (Q1162700): n79114009‏ testcase see talk:Q1162700

Now the Unicode Character 'RIGHT-TO-LEFT MARK' - U+200F character has been copied and pasted into this talk page. One would need advanced tools to detect it.
Best reagards לערי ריינהארט (talk) 06:37, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

This is not a bug in this gadget. The RIGHT-TO-LEFT MARK has to be removed in the property value. --Fomafix (talk) 08:50, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

There is no other way known to me to detect the whithespace UTF-8 cheracters and the BiDirectional UTF-8 control characters properly via the usage of the template:Constraint (in Wikidata:Database reports/Constraint violations/P244 for Library of Congress authority ID (P244) ) then changing the line to (something like):

re:

244: 'http://lccn.loc.gov/' + encodeURIComponent($1), // LCCN

I found one identifier value. There should be dozens of property values where whitespace is / might be used.
An additional bug might be the UTF-8 whitespace normalization where strings as TAB TABTAB

a) should first be replaced by a single SPACE
b) heading (prefix) and trailing (suffix) SPACE should be removed afterwords.

Regards לערי ריינהארט (talk) 09:14, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

The line
244: 'http://lccn.loc.gov/' + encodeURIComponent($1), // LCCN
is a wrong syntax. Maybe the function encodeURIComponent() should be added to the gadget. But only to prevent wrong encoded URLs. This doesn’t remove wrong characters in the property values. The wrong character must be removed in the property values directly. The Template:Constraint:Format can be used to detect wrong characters. Maybe we can order a bot to remove the wrong characters automatically. But I just found two values with RIGHT-TO-LEFT MARK and removed them. --Fomafix (talk) 09:50, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
re: This doesn’t remove wrong characters in the property values. I know. I have no way to search via another method.

Whitespace UTF-8 character changes can not be detected in diff. This is known since a few years. I found your edits diff=83049029&oldid=74726347 in the history of Sarah Caudwell (Q3459129) and diff=83049345&oldid=34523981 in the history of H. Lynn Womack (Q5628384) . You may be the only person understanding that diff. לערי ריינהארט (talk) 10:18, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

I assume that you (Fomafix) have checked the LCCN urls in your browser using the mouse and looking for %E2%80%8F or %E2%80<something>. I could not find (at this identifier) other cases then the one you have fixed already.The mousehover browser features may help elsewhere as well.
P.S. At Wikidata:Database reports/Constraint violations/P213#.22Format.22_violations for ISNI (P213) ) Violations count: 156 is shown. I noticed that UTF-8 whitespace normalization would be required at many cases. browsers will / might display one character only and diff his no 100% help. לערי ריינהארט (talk) 11:06, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I identified the wrong characters in the URLs and removed them. Originally the bidi characters come from enwiki. They should be fixed there by a bot like in dewiki. The diff doesn’t show invisible characters. This is general bug to the diff: bugzilla:13466. This gadget can’t solve these bugs. --Fomafix (talk) 10:03, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

Multiple errors (VIAF)

I've checks some of the links, most were wrong.

Why are the links wrong? Users keep using VIAF as a source. VIAF is a helpful collection of authority files, but it is not the original source. It's like citing Wikipedia only because you want to save time reading the original book. VIAF is helpful, but also outdated, faulty and full of pseudo numbers. Otto Strasser (Q76640) has the NLI (Israel) identifier: 000264731. It's easy to research: The NLI database is online and free. So please stop adding outdated and/or wrong numbers. --Kolja21 (talk) 21:53, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

So if you click on e.g. George Clooney (Q23844) you can't clic on the IMDB identifier which takes you to the website? --Tobias1984 (talk) 09:06, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
Yes, it does that ... so the gadget converts data fields to active contextual urls, so I just have a different interpretation of "adds links". Here I was thinking that it was like the authority control gadget that we use at English Wikisource that interrogates the VIAF authority control database and gives the ability to add the data fields as links. Different expectations. Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 11:16, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
Glad I can help. --Tobias1984 (talk) 11:50, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

IDEO Job ID (P1043)

I recently created a property with the String datatype, so it should be added to MediaWiki:Gadget-AuthorityControl.js, but I'm not sure how to do that myself. Thanks, --Jakob (Scream about the things I've broken) 15:17, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

@King jakob c 2: Do you have a url for that property (i.e. a url that the identifier can be added to in order to create a link)? The Anonymouse (talk) 06:44, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

P502 and P628

Hi, support for properties HURDAT ID (P502) and E number (P628) needs a bit of change to code...

Please add in the top list:

	502: 'http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/$1', // HURDAT identifier
	628: 'http://www.codexalimentarius.net/gsfaonline/additives/results.html?searchBy=ins&ins=$1', // E Number

then down in function createLink( ), replace :

		if ( numericPropertyId === 213 ) {
			linkValue = snakValue.getValue().replace( / /g, '' );
		}
		else {
			linkValue = snakValue.getValue();
		}

with:

		switch( Number(numericPropertyId) )  {
		case 213:   // ISNI
		  linkValue = snakValue.getValue().replace( / /g, '' );
		  break;
		case 502:   // HURDAT
		  linkValue = snakValue.getValue().substring(4,8);  // year
		  if ( Number(linkValue) <= 2005 ) {
			linkValue += "/"; // Brings a list for that year
			// For direct link, would need to append <name of hurricane>.[s]htlm
			// ex: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2004/ALEX.shtml   or   2001/ALLISON.html
		  } else {              // after 2005
			linkValue += "/" + snakValue.getValue().substring(0,4).toLowerCase() + "/";
		  }
		  break;
		case 628:   // E Number
		  linkValue = snakValue.getValue().substring(1,16);  // Skip initial letter
		  break;
		default:
		  linkValue = snakValue.getValue();
		}

This also corrects the blanks spaces of the ISNI that were no longer removed in the last while.

Property P882: FIPS 6-4 (counties in USA)

We can link the values of property P882, for example "50001" => http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/50/50001.html . Could you please add a line for the property FIPS 6-4 (P882)?

882: 'http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/$1.substr(0,2)/$1.html',

Syntax not tested, please have a look at it. --Zuphilip (talk) 14:30, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

HTML comments

Hi, here the gadget seems to have imported a commented-out placeholder <!--xxxxxx--> from en:WP. Now from en:WP's sight the corresponding parameter for the AC template was empty, therefore the Wikidata value was transcluded. (This now-text value failed formal verification and therefore provoced an confusing entry in the administrative category. Cf. the subsequent Discussion on en:Village Pump.

Could imported text be generally cleaned up with respect to SGML comments? -- Gymel (talk) 12:13, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
