I got the following error message while trying to merge Ans van Zeyst (Q51320810) and Ans van Zeyst (Q108655957): 'Error while "Merge with: Q51320810": The statement has already a reference with hash d1c02476973f68e2ae2e0753e287b3f88c8289ff' Spinster 💬 19:43, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Fails silently when you enter a string instead of an item ID

Since I am a Wikidata noob, I copy pasted an item title instead of the item ID. It failed silently, and it took me a few minutes to figure out.

Steps to reproduce:

• activate gadget in preferences
• visit some item
• more -> merge with
• type in a string instead of an item ID
• untick "Always merge into the older entity"
• click "merge"

What happens?

• Nothing

What should happen instead

• Warning modal, or red warning string, or turn the text box red, etc.

An red error appears in my popup, but it's at the bottom. I think we should rather display it at the top using the common styling. Sjoerd de Bruin (talk) 08:15, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
