Person depicted by (P1299) another person edit

In Margaret Thatcher (Q7416) depicted by (P1299) is set to Meryl Streep (Q873) due to The Iron Lady (Q269810) [1]. Is that a way we want to use depicted by (P1299)? — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 16:39, 10 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

I don't really like this. performer (P175) is currently used to indicate the actors that portrayed a fictional character. Maybe this could be used for humans, too, if it should be necessary. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 16:59, 19 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
We need to find a better solution for these. --- Jura 21:34, 2 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

. Shouldn’t this use value-type constraint (Q21510865) instead? --Lucas Werkmeister (WMDE) (talk) 16:29, 19 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

I agree. ChristianKl () 16:33, 19 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Definitely. This was a mistake - thank you for noticing. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 16:42, 19 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Not sure what that was removed. I restored it. --- Jura 21:34, 2 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Paintings can be "depicted by" books, scholarly articles, news articles, movies and legal documents like claims, so the constraint is problematic edit

It is normal for paintings and other artworks to be depicted in and depicted by a wide variety of sources. Paintings are regularly "depicted by" movies and books like Woman in Gold and Lady in Gold, as well as in news articles and legal documents (particularly about looted art). It seems to me that the constraint against "depicted by" for paintings causes needless error messages. LAP959 (talk) 04:18, 30 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Those sources contain references to, or descriptions of, paintings, not depictions. A depiction is a representation, a stand-in. We have a property for the kind of relations you're talking about: described by source (P1343). Swpb (talk) 13:36, 30 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Inverse constraint edit

I added an inverse constraint and noticed this triggered quite a few warnings. Not sure if this property is used in a consistent manner. If I focus on the paintings, it looks ok. Multichill (talk) 17:37, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
