Archived discussion from Project chat edit

Is there any reason why Property:P135 needs to apply only to literary movements? As en:Art movement summarizes, we have them in visual arts. And certainly in film, as well, with such as examples as the recent en:Dogme 95 movement. And no doubt elsewhere. Can we change the label and description to make it a general property for all arts movements? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 18:36, 25 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Seconded. It's good to have properties with a reasonably large scope and in this case I don't see any downside to the proposed change. Pichpich (talk) 20:24, 25 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Great, yes, this seems like a no-brainer since the related Property:P136 for Genre is under the general Wikidata:List_of_properties#Works_.2F_Werke_.2F_.C5.92uvres section. I think it was just an oversight. I'm copying this discussion to the Property talk page, rewording it and moving it up in the Property list to the general works section. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 22:00, 25 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I can't see the harm in also broadening to include en:Philosophical movement. Others can object if they wish. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 23:03, 25 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

What about social movement or political movement? Should be used Property:P135 for them? I am asking especially because of Esperanto movement. --KuboF (talk) 19:51, 20 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

constraint violations, mistake regarding subclasses? edit

Can't use German Romanticism (Q2477112) as Caspar David Friedrich (Q104884), see movement (P135), while I can use perfectly linked upper class Romanticism (Q37068)--Oursana (talk) 15:10, 25 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Use of P135 for academic discipline (Q11862829) edit

I try to find properties to describe items of type academic discipline (Q11862829) such as economics (Q8134). In develop an Infobox in Lua for the Wikipedia in French (w:fr:Modèle:Infobox Discipline).

Some academic disciplines have several movements or school of thought. For instance, Economics has the classical school, the Austrian school, the keynesian school.

Is it relevant to use P135 to describe all movements for one discipline?

See one example here Q8134#P135
