Discussion edit

Changed value edit

I have changed value from v[1-9]\d{0,5} to movie/v[1-9]\d{0,5}, so is possible to add also cast and crew with prefix artist/ --ValterVB (talk) 09:32, 2 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

It might be easier to create another property for these. --- Jura 09:35, 2 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
I also think that creating another property is better way. Migration to new format is unpleasant process. Also maintaining different properties is more simple. — Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 16:54, 2 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Migration is not a problem, already done, but I think is better to use only one property like Imdb. I don't like to have more properties for one kind of ID --ValterVB (talk) 19:48, 2 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Migration is a problem because not all systems that use this property are listed on this page or on another pages. IMDb ID (P345) is bad sample, this property is hard to maintenance. For example I worked on humans with IMDb ID some time ago. But I can not focus my attention only on humans because films and characters use same property. I can not use {{Constraint:Type}}, {{Constraint:Item}} for IMDb ID (P345). There is another sample: MusicBrainz release group ID (P436), MusicBrainz work ID (P435), MusicBrainz artist ID (P434). Maintaining these properties more simple. Additionally it is not easy to create properties manually: text movie/v397868 does not present both in URL http://www.allmovie.com/movie/swing-vote-v397868/ and on the page. I need to cut part of URL or type movie/ during the property creation. — Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 20:15, 2 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

New ID Structure for AllMovie Links edit

Just FYI, AllMovie.com just changed their ID structure and URL links.
Movie pages used to end in "v" and then a series of numbers, and now end in "vm" and a different series of numbers.
Person/actor pages used to end in "p" and a series of numbers, and now end in "vn" and a different series of numbers.

The template or widget that allows users to quickly add links to AllMovie pages may need to be changed or updated. 96.75.43.73 16:20, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, the numbers change as well. v516677 becomes vm13648691. Which means it can't be fixed by an autofix command. Mbch331 (talk) 20:12, 20 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
True, but the old links redirect. There is no easy fix to replace the ones that are already published on the Wikipedia pages, but the template or widget that allows users to quickly add new AllMovie links to the individual Wikipedia pages may be changed or updated to read in the new ID format. 96.75.43.73 16:13, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Templates/Widgets on Wikipedia are issues for the Wikipedias, not for Wikidata. And old -> new on Wikidata can be done by bot. A bot can open the old links, follow the redirect and save the new value. Mbch331 (talk) 16:33, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's not how it should be handled. Standard procedure on Wikidata in such cases is to create a new property for the new ID scheme. That way, the old IDs are still present and can still be used by external parties to match external uses of the old IDs to Wikidata items and other IDs. --2A02:810B:580:11D4:2F4:6FFF:FE72:D65F 09:37, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
