item or concept used by the subject or in the operation (see also instrument [P1303] and armament [P520])
if [item A] has this property (uses (P2283)) linked to [item B],
then [item A] and [item B] have to coincide or coexist at some point of history. (Help)

Batman in the example edit
I see that Batman uses Batmobile is in the example. I'm not sure that it is consistant with the french description : item used in operation. Batman is not an operation ...
Also I'd like to ask if the property I proposed in this proposal :
Data type | MISSING |
---|---|
Example 1 | MISSING |
Example 2 | MISSING |
Example 3 | MISSING |
is a duplicate of this one. author TomT0m / talk page 15:36, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
- There is an obvious discrepancy between the English description and French one ("item used by the subject" vs."item used in operation"). You should check the original purpose. The English meaning is far too large, from my point of view. @TomT0m: I'll remove the "Batmobile" example, but I suggest that you add a constraint type=operation or process to clarify the expected scope, and double check the original proposal discussion of this one to ensure it differs from your new proposal. -- LaddΩ chat ;) 15:11, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
Uses of uses (P2283) edit
Which is the difference between item operated (P121) and uses (P2283)? --★ → Airon 90 14:06, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- It's a subproperty. I guess one is more the relation beetween a driver and his vehicle who has to be driven, and the other one is more generic. A pencil is a simple tool and is not a machine. author TomT0m / talk page 14:21, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
items? edit
Current examples:
I would place P121 instead of the question mark, not 2283. BTW, any animal uses its parts or not?
P121 claims items already... I would leave P2283 only for abstract things like traditions and abstract principles. d1g (talk) 13:58, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

Removal of the inverse constraint (Q21510855) edit
FYI: Removal of the inverse constraint (Q21510855) has been proposed at Wikidata:Project chat#Concepts used in a process. --Marsupium (talk) 21:06, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
- Archived at Wikidata:Project_chat/Archive/2018/05#Concepts_used_in_a_process. Getting rid of the constraint was recommended, so I think I'll do it. I noticed it on toga party (Q1113775) uses (P2283) toga (Q183171), but we can hardly say the main use of toga (Q183171) is toga party (Q1113775). Ghouston (talk) 03:22, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
- Well, maybe it's OK to go on toga (Q183171). I had picked has use (P366) instead of used by (P1535). Ghouston (talk) 03:26, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
- The constraint had already been deleted, but somebody put it back, so I deleted it again. Ghouston (talk) 03:32, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
- That was my bad; I didn't notice the discussion. @Ghouston: Should it be added back with a deprecated rank so others know not to re-add it? I'm not sure if this would break any property constraint gadgets or bots however. – Pizza1016 (talk | contribs) 04:40, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not sure, I suppose we could try and see what happens? Ghouston (talk) 04:41, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
- I tried it, it's turned up again at the top of this talk page, so it's not promising. Ghouston (talk) 04:44, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
- Although on items, individual claims aren't getting flagged. Ghouston (talk) 04:56, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
- We'll see if the deprecation gets picked up by the database report (once it updates). If it does, then I believe
{{Property documentation}}
should be updated. In the meantime, I added reason for deprecated rank (P2241). – Pizza1016 (talk | contribs) 12:25, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

Software or equipment edit
Is this property only for abstract concepts or also for specific equipments (and software, if software engine (P408) is ever not appropriate)? For instance, can I state Wikimedia Blog (Q50558357) uses (P2283) WordPress (Q13166)? Nemo 08:23, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
